SPOTLIGHT POLL
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Old Dominion
Athletic Conference and its member schools partnered with Special
Olympics Virginia several years ago and the relationship has
continued to blossom in many ways. A few ODAC schools volunteered
at the Second Annual Blacksburg Color Me Rad 5k Race to benefit
Special Olympics Virginia in October. Emory & Henry College,
Hollins University and Roanoke College served as race marshal and
that event was recently selected by the NCAA to be one of the
featured stories in the Special Olympics Spotlight at NCAA.org.
This was a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) driven
event and 50 student-athletes from E&H, HU, and RC dedicated a
few hours of their day to assist with the race. Color Me Rad and
Special Olympics Virginia had an agreement that for every ODAC
volunteer, Color Me Rad would donate $100.00 to Special Olympics
Virginia. Special Olympics Virginia will receive $5,000.00 and will
use the money to provide programming and state level events for
their athletes.
The NCAA Division III Special Olympics Spotlight Poll is a
story-telling initiative located on ncaa.org/D3SpecialOlympics. It features three new
stories per month – each highlighting a Division III and
Special Olympics joint activity or event.
The story with the highest number of votes on Monday, January 27
is the winner. The poll is now open and will close at 5 p.m. ET.
The winning institution or conference will be given $500 to use for
its next Special Olympics event.
