All-ODAC Women's Volleyball Awards Announced

WLU Garners Five All-Conference Selections, Three Special Honors

FOREST, Va. --- ODAC champion Washington and Lee University led league programs with five all-conference selections plus three special individual honors to highlight the 2024 All-ODAC Women's Volleyball Awards as announced following the championship match in Lexington on Saturday.

Generals mentor Bryan Snyder received ODAC Coach of the Year distinction from his peers. His star-studded roster includes ODAC Player of the Year, setter Allie Buchholz, and outside hitter Avery Myers, who earned the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.

Randolph-Macon College outside Allison Lach collected the remaining special plaudit as the ODAC Rookie of the Year.

Twenty-four stars earned recognition combined between the 2024 All-ODAC First, Second, and Third Teams. That includes 13 repeat honorees from last season featuring three standouts from the 2023 first team, seven from the second team, and three from the third team.

Buchholz, a senior from Portland, Ore., is the engine behind the Generals potent offense as their full-time setter, leading WLU to ODAC top ranks in team kills (1,562), attack percentage (.248) and assists (1,465). Buchholz leads the ODAC in both total assists (1,122) and assists per set (10.20). Those numbers rank 13th and 17th in Division III. Her 49 assists in the ODAC title match helped her tip the scales for a new personal single-season record in overall and per-set assists. She averaged 10 or more assists per set in 19 matches played including a season-high 51 assists to tie the second-best single-match record of her career in a 3-2 win over Carnegie Mellon University. Buchholz has racked up 39 service aces and is strong defensively with 383 digs at 3.48 per set, ranking eighth and 13th in the conference in the latter two numbers, respectively.

Snyder is in his 25th season guiding the Generals volleyball program and his 27th campaign as a collegiate volleyball head coach. This is the 12th time he has received ODAC top-coaching laurels and his third in the last five seasons. Snyder's Generals are currently the 12th-ranked squad in Division III in the latest AVCA top-25 poll. They own the eighth-highest rating in the NCAA Power Index (NPI), the metric used to gauge the entire Division for at-large selection in the national bracket. The Generals are currently 32-2, marking the sixth 30-plus win season in Snyder's career. WLU's .941 current winning percentage would go down as Snyder's best showing outside of the 16-0 shortened campaign during the spring season of 2021 during the COVID pandemic. Snyder enters the NCAA Tournament with a 688-229 (.750) overall record including a 647-204 (.760) mark at Washington and Lee.

Myers, a senior from New York, N.Y., combines the ODAC/VAFB scholar-athlete award with her first All-ODAC selection as a first team choice. In the classroom, Myers maintains a 3.918 grade point average as a business administration major. The three-time ODAC All-Academic Team honoree is a six-time W&L Scholar Athlete and three-time honoree on the W&L President's List Myers, who spent this past summer as a sales and trading analyst with CitiGroup, is a member of the Generals Leadership Academy and serves as the volleyball team's representative on "24," W&L's version of SAAC. She helped promote community sustainability as the Generals Earth Action Rally Volleyball Team Leader, and raised money to provide services to victims of domestic and sexual violence while working with Delta Society Philanthropic Fundraising.

On the court, Myers is among the best six-rotation players in the conference. She ranks third in the ODAC in points earned (458.5) and total kills (412), fifth in kills per set (3.65) and points per set (4.06), 15th in attack percentage (.233), 14th in digs (343), and 17th in digs per set (3.04).

Lach, a first-year from Fredericksburg, Va., stepped into Randolph-Macon's rotation and proved a key component to the Yellow Jackets attack, earning All-ODAC Third Team honors. Lach closed her first season among the ODAC leaders in several offensive statistical categories including seventh in kills per set (3.04), eighth in points per set (3.63), ninth in aces (45), 11th in total points (345.0), and 14th in total kills (289). Lach registered 10 or more kills in 16 matches including a season-high 19 winners in a five-set win at Lynchburg in September.
