ODAC Baseball Report: Week 1

  • JACOB BELL | SHENANDOAH | GR. | SP | WINCHESTER, VA.
    Bell, a graduate student from Winchester, Va., kicked off the new season with a win in his first start as Shenandoah downed Widener, 19-6. Bell went the first five innings and gave up three runs on four hits with one walk and seven strikeouts. Bell allowed the first runner of the game to reach via a double, but then shut down the next 12 batters he faced before an infield single snapped that string with the first batter in the fifth inning.

  • PEARCE BUCHER | SHENANDOAH | GR. | 3B | STEPHENS CITY, VA.
    Bucher, a graduate/doctoral student from Stephens City, Va., beat the cover off the ball in helping Shenandoah sweep Widener (16-5, 19-6) to start the season. Bucher slashed .667/.700/1.833 as he went 4-for-6 with six runs scored, a double, two homers, five RBI, and a pair of walks while also being hit by a pitch and stealing a base. In game one, Bucher walked, was hit by a pitch and stole a base while scoring once. In game two, he went 4-for-4 with another walk. He doubled once and belted two homers on the way to driving in four runs.

      • vs. Brevard (L, 10-6): 2 unearned runs on 3 hits with 1 walk and 3 K's in 4.1 innings of relief towards a no-decision
    • Bridgewater reliever Joe Christopher – Jr. | Haymarket, Va.
      • vs. N.C. Wesleyan (L, 9-8): 1 run on 1 hit with 0 walks (2 HPB) and 5 K's over 4.0 innings towards a no-decision
