FOREST, Va. --- The races for the 2023-24 ODAC Commissioner's Cups were spirited throughout the athletic campaign, but one school prevailed in each of the conference's three cup tables. Washington and Lee University continued its dominance by sweeping top position, securing all three prizes for the 17th time.
The Generals collected their 22nd straight and 28th total Dan Wooldridge Overall Champions Cup to go with their 21st consecutive and 24th overall ODAC Women's Commissioner's Cup and 23rd ODAC Men's Commissioner's Cup. The University of Lynchburg, winners of last season's men's trophy, finished second in all three standings. Roanoke College slotted second in the Wooldridge Cup and men's event chart, while Randolph-macon College finished third in the women's table and fourth in the overall and men's cup races.
Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance is the proud sponsor for the Dan Wooldridge Overall Champions Cup and the ODAC Men and Women's Commissioner's Cups. Virginia Farm Bureau and the ODAC continue their partnership in focusing on the strength of the conference's student-athletes and maintaining the NCAA Division III philosophy of the complete student-athlete experience. Aside from supporting the ODAC Commissioners' Cups, Virginia Farm Bureau is the sponsor of the ODAC's sport-by-sport scholar-athlete awards.
As determined by the ODAC Board of Directors, points for the ODAC Commissioner's Cups are based on regular-season standings in team sports and championship team finishes in individual/meet sports. Each institution has a total number of possible points it can collect based on its sport sponsorship. The total number of points earned is then divided by the total number of possible points to determine the rating for each institution.
Washington and Lee collected 238.0 of a possible 268.0 points to secure a 0.888 rating atop the Wooldridge Cup table, 0.012 higher than last year's final rating. WLU posted a lofty 0.904 mark (122-of-135) to top the women's cup chart and a 0.872 rating (116-of-133) to slide past Lynchburg's 0.835 rating (98.5-of-118) on the men's chart. The Hornets registered an overall rating of 0.802 (212.5-of-265) in the Wooldridge Cup and a 0.776 mark (114-of-147) in the women's standings.
Washington and Lee has now won 28 of the 30 Wooldridge Cups since the award was first recognized following the 1994-95 season. Lynchburg is the only school other than WLU to claim a Wooldridge Cup. The Generals have collected 24-of-32 women's cups and 23-of-32 men's cups. Roanoke accounts for all eight of the remaining women's cup winners, while Lynchburg has claimed six men's awards with Bridgewater College (2003-04), Hampden-Sydney College (1992-93), and Virginia Wesleyan University (then College)(2014-15) earning one each.
