ODAC Equestrian Report 7

The ODAC fall single-discipline season came to a close over the weekend with a trio of shows featuring Berry College, Bridgewater College, and Sewanee.

On Friday, Bridgewater posted a 6-4 triumph at Sewanee, recovering from down 3-2 after the fences competition to claim 4-of-5 points on the flat.

On Saturday, Berry turned in a 5-4 home win over the Eagles. Like Bridgewater the day prior, the Vikings needed a comeback to post the team win. They trailed, 3-1, after fences competition – there was one tie – but recovered by winning 4-of-5 matchups for the one-point team win.

On Sunday, Sewanee moved into the winner's circle with an 8-2 triumph over Berry. The Tigers went 4-1 in each session powered by MOP rides from Emma Sameth (fences) and Olivia Carmouche (flat).

  • MEAGHAN KURSMAN | BERRY COLLEGE
Kursman, a senior from Liberty Township, Ohio, went 2-0 in both of her matchups over fences to help Berry to a 1-1 showing to close the fall season. In a 5-4 win over Bridgewater on Saturday, Kursman claimed MOP honors in a head-to-head pairing with Margaret Brown. The pair rode Vance, with Kursman registering an 88-79 win with the 88 marking a personal-best score. On Sunday in an 8-2 team loss at Sewanee, Kursman was again victorious in her matchup with Irene Boehm. They rode Tuck with Kursman posting an 82-76 victory. Kursman also went 2-0 on the flat, accounting for both of the Vikings' points at Sewanee and securing the last point as the final ride to clinch the win over Bridgewater.

  • WILLOW WRIGHT | BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE
Wright, a sophomore from Brewster, N.Y., collects her second ODAC weekly award on the flat this season after going 2-0 in flat competition during Bridgewater's 1-1 week. In a 6-4 team win at Sewanee on Friday, Wright turned in a perfect 100 score while riding Archie to mark a new personal high score. She defeated Emma Sameth, 100-89, to claim the head-to-head showdown. In a 5-4 loss at Berry on Saturday, Wright claimed the Eagles point in the flat competition in a matchup with Devon Ansley. They rode Valencia with Wright winning, 84-74. Wright also won both of her rides over fences, accounting for four total points on the week.
