ODAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 7

ODAC women's basketball teams went a resounding 11-3 against non-conference opponents over the past week that included a few holiday tournaments mixed in. Nationally eighth-ranked Washington and Lee won both of its games at the Daytona Beach Shootout to improve to 10-0 on the season. No. 24 Shenandoah collected its ninth win of the year, matching 9-0 Guilford with the second-most wins in the conference. Randolph-Macon posted two wins at the Jamie Lynn Roberts Fairfield Inn DC Holiday Classic hosted by Catholic University to improve to 8-2. Averett (4-6) and Randolph (6-4) also earned a pair of wins to put seven ODAC teams on win streaks of at least two games.

  • MARY SCHLEUSNER | WASHINGTON AND LEE | FORWARD
    Schleusner, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., continued her dominance of Division III women's basketball with not only a strong pair of outings for nationally eighth-ranked Washington and Lee at the Daytona Beach Shootout, but also securing a major milestone as just the fifth women's basketball player in ODAC history to reach 2,000 career points. Schleusner needed just 22 minutes to notch 15 points and 15 rebounds (11 defensive) to go with two steals and four blocked shots in the Generals' 68-33 triumph over the University of New England. She was 6-of-12 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line while also chipping in three assists. Schleusner turned up the production in WLU's 76-66 victory over No. 14 Carroll University. She scored 26 points – including her 2,000th and 2,001st on a layup with 2:39 to play – while pulling down 19 rebounds (12 defensive). She flipped her defensive numbers with four steals and a pair of blocked shots to give her six of each for the week. She also registered two more assists. For the season, Schleusner leads the ODAC in rebounding (15.8), blocked shots (23), and blocked shots per game (2.6). She is second in scoring (19.7), third in points (177), assists per game (33), and assists-to-turnover ratio (1.4), fourth in total assists (33), seventh in field goal shooting (.493; 71-of-144), and 10th in steals per game (2.2).

  • ERIN PORTER | RANDOLPH-MACON | GUARD
    Porter, a sophomore from Virginia Beach, Va., registered a pair of strong all-around games for Randolph-Macon to help the Yellow Jackets improve to 8-2 with two wins at the Jamie Lynn Roberts Fairfield Inn DC Holiday Classic hosted by Catholic University. Porter posted 12 points with four rebounds and a career-high four blocked shots in RMC's 62-44 triumph over Principia College in the tournament opener. She was 4-of-9 from three-point territory while adding two assists. Porter flipped the switch on her offensive production in the Yellow Jackets' 68-57 win over the host Cardinals, who are receiving votes towards the latest D3hoops.com top-25 poll. Porter posted a career-high 28 points on 9-of-16 from the fielding including 6-of-12 from downtown. She was also 4-for-4 from the line and pulled down three boards to go with an assist, two steals, and two blocked shots. For the season, Porter is 10th in the ODAC in points scored (129) and 15th in scoring (12.9). She is third in three-pointers made (21), seventh in free throw shooting (.800; 20-of-25), and eighth in blocked shots (9).

    • Averett guard DaiShaundria Giggetts averaged 17.5 points and 5.5 boards with 4 assists and 5 steals in the Cougars 2-0 week; guard Kyjana Jordan averaged 5.5 points and 2.5 rebounds with 9 steals over the two outings.
    • Lynchburg guard Bree Spainhour posted 10 points, 2 boards and 3 assists in the Hornets' 75-32 win over Regent; guard Selah Parker registered 6 points, 4 boards, and 4 steals.
    • Randolph guard Taniya Jackson averaged 11.5 points and 3.0 rebounds with 6 assists and 5 steals in the WildCats' 2-0 week.
    • Randolph-Macon forward McKenzie Matheny averaged 14.5 points and 14.0 rebounds with 6 assists and 3 steals in the Yellow Jackets' 2-0 week.
    • Roanoke guard Ashley Fowler averaged 17.5 points and 4.0 rebounds with 6 assists in the Maroons' 1-1 showing at the Jamie Lynn Roberts Fairfield Inn DC Holiday Classic hosted by Catholic University.
    • Shenandoah guard Addisyn Banks notched a career-high 26 points with 12 rebounds (4th double-double), 5 assists, and 3 steals in a 79-57 win at Salisbury.
