Washington and Lee Tops ODAC Men's Lacrosse Poll

FOREST, Va. --- For the second time in as many seasons, Washington and Lee University is the conference coaches' pick to hoist the league trophy with the Generals topping the 2025 ODAC Men's Lacrosse Preseason Poll.

Washington and Lee collected a maximum 100 points powered by 10 first place votes. Defending champion University of Lynchburg earned the remaining top nod on the way to 90 poll markers. Roanoke College sits third with 74 tallies, while 2024 runner-up Randolph-Macon College is six points back in fourth position.

In the sections below, we look back to the 2024 season to set the tone for this year and then dive into some features of ODAC men's lacrosse for the upcoming 2025 campaign.

    • Three ODAC teams – Washington and Lee (16), Randolph-Macon (16), Lynchburg (15) – won at least 15 games with Roanoke posting 14 wins.
    • The final league standings featured a three-way tie at 6-3 that shaped the tournament bracket; the final seedings (in order) were WLU, LYN, RC, HSC, RMC, SU, GC
    • Randolph-Macon played for its first title in program history after upset victories at Hampden-Sydney (9-8) in the quarterfinals and at Washington and Lee (13-12) in the semifinals.
    • Lynchburg clinched its 18th ODAC championship game appearance with a win over Roanoke (12-6) in the semifinals.
    • In the title match, Lynchburg led 6-2 after one quarter but were out-scored by Randolph-Macon, 4-2, in the second to lead 8-6 at the break; the Hornets shutout the Yellow Jackets in the third frame and out-paced RMC, 5-2, in the second half on the way to a 13-8 triumph.
    • Lynchburg has now won three of the past four ODAC titles to increase their overall tally to 10 conference trophies.
    • For the sixth time in ODAC history, three teams earned a spot in the Division III bracket; ODAC automatic qualifier Lynchburg was joined by at-large selections Roanoke and Washington and Lee.
    • All three ODAC teams received byes beyond the first round with Lynchburg hosting one four-team pod for the second and third rounds that included Washington and Lee; Roanoke's pod location was at Christopher Newport.
    • Lynchburg and WLU both won their first outings with the Hornets dominating Pfeiffer, 24-8, and the Generals trouncing Lake Forest College, 17-4.
    • Roanoke came up just short in its comeback bid from 4-1 down to lose, 10-9, to Stevens Institute
    • In the third round, Washington and Lee out-scored Lynchburg 5-2 in the fourth quarter to post a 16-13 victory over the host Hornets
    • In the quarterfinals, 13th-ranked Washington and Lee turned the tournament upside-down with a 16-15 overtime victory over host and top-ranked Salisbury University, recovering from a seven-goal deficit along the way
    • The Generals, playing in the semifinals for the first time since 2002, saw their season come to a close with a 19-13 loss to sixth-ranked Tufts University.
    • USILA TOP-20: the USILA released its annual USILA/Blatant Lacrosse 2025 Men's Coaches Division III Preseason Poll on January 29; Washington and Lee opens the year fourth in the table, while Lynchburg slots 12th; Roanoke (9) is receiving votes towards the top-20.
    • USILA PRESEASON ALL-AMERICANS: the USILA announced its annual Division III Preseason All-Americans on Wednesday; nine ODAC players featured on the three-team lists

  • The ODAC recognized 50 players on its 2024 All-ODAC teams (1st, 2nd, 3rd). Twenty-six players are back on league rosters this season. Additionally, two special individual honorees return.

    Washington and Lee leads the way with 7-of-10 All-ODAC stars back in Lexington, while Roanoke welcomes back 6-of-10 all-league standouts. Randolph-Macon and reigning ODAC Coach of the J.B. Sheridan feature five of its seven 2024 all-conference stars.

    Among WLU's returners is first team face-off man and ODAC Rookie of the Year, Tyler Spano.

    • The ODAC will feature 11 competing squads for the second straight season.
    • ODAC teams will conduct a full 10-game unbalanced conference schedule in addition to a robust non-conference campaign scheduled by each school.
    • The first regular season games of the season are slated for the weekend of Saturday, February 8-9 with three squads in action.
    • The first conference game of the season is slated for Saturday, February 22 with Roanoke taking on Averett.
    • The ODAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament will feature a new eight-team bracket competed over four rounds.
