ODAC Baseball Report: Week 11

  • JACK McDOWELL | VIRGINIA WESLEYAN | JR. | RHP | VIRGINIA BEACH, VA.
    McDowell, a junior righty from Virginia Beach, Va., helped Virginia Wesleyan stay in the ODAC postseason hunt by picking up the win in game one of a doubleheader sweep at Washington and Lee to earn his first ODAC weekly award. McDowell worked the first seven frames of the Marlins 3-1 victory and left the contest without allowing a run. He surrendered just three hits in holding the Generals to a .136 batting average. He walked a pair and fanned one batter as he rolled up 10 ground ball outs including two double-play balls. He set down eight hitters in a row through the middle innings. McDowell is now 1-2 with a 3.98 ERA in 12 appearances (8 starts). He has struck out 29 and walked 17 in 40.2 innings on the hill.

  • JOE MUNITZ | LYNCHBURG | SO. | CF | VIRGINIA BEACH, VA.
    Munitz, a sophomore centerfielder from Virginia Beach, Va., collects his second straight ODAC weekly award after reaching base 13 times in 21 plate appearances with 10 hits towards a .588 average and a 1.560 OPS to help nationally fourth-ranked Lynchburg to a 4-0 week. Munitz went 2-for-4 with a double, stolen base, and a run scored in a 7-3 win over Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday. He singled and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly while also scoring once in a 14-7 triumph over Christopher Newport University. Munitz played a big role in the Hornets continued offensive output as he drove in seven runs and scored six more in a sweep of Bridgewater that saw Lynchburg score 51 runs over the two outings, bringing the Hornets total for the week to 72 runs. Munitz went 7-for-9 against the Eagles with a walk and a stolen base in each game. He went 3-for-4 in game one with three RBI and three runs scored. He went 4-for-5 in game two with a double and two triples, leaving him a homer shy of the cycle. He plated four runs and crossed the dish three more times himself. For the season, Munitz is slashing .405/.554/.529 with 49 hits, 34 walks, 39 RBI, and 20 steals.
