FOREST, Va. --- Washington and Lee University posted its seventh straight unbeaten conference record, going 9-0 against league opponents to claim the regular season crown and secure the top seed in the upcoming ODAC Men's Tennis Tournament.
Tiebreakers played a significant role in determining the eight-team postseason field. There was, however, one fewer stalemate to evaluate and both were solved by head-to-head results, the first step in the conference's tiebreaking procedures. The top three seeds were free from ties with the Generals joined by second-seeded Averett University (8-1) and third-seeded Hampden-Sydney College (7-2) in earning quarterfinal hosting privileges.
Shenandoah University and Virginia Wesleyan University tied for fourth at 6-3 in league matches. The Hornets posted a 5-2 win over the Marlins in their regular season meeting, awarding SU the fourth seed and final position as a quarterfinal host before the turnover moves to Washignton and Lee for semifinal and championship play on the weekend. The Marlins, as the fifth seed, will travel to SU in the quarterfinals.
Randolph College and Guilford College earned the sixth and seventh seeds outright with conference records of 5-4 and 4-5, respectively. The WildCats will travel to H-SC on Wednesday, while the Quakers will play at Averett in the quarterfinals.
The final spot in the tournament field came down to tiebreakers. The University of Lynchburg and Roanoke College tied in the league table at 3-6. The Hornets defeated the Maroons, 4-3, earlier this month to secure the tiebreaker and the eighth-seed in the bracket. Lynchburg will travel to WLU in the quarterfinals.
