ODAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 10

From here on out, the vast majority of play in the women's basketball composite will feature conference contests. All 12 games last week were ODAC outings with nationally sixth-ranked Washington and Lee, Bridgewater, Hollins, and Randolph-Macon all winning twice. The Eagles, Yellow Jackets, and Generals are now 4-0 conference outings with HU and No. 24 Shenandoah sitting at 3-1. Guilford saw its school-record unbeaten start stopped with a pair of losses, but the Quakers still boast an 11-2 overall record along with BC, HU, and SU. RMC is 10-3, while WLU is 13-0. The Generals are one victory shy of a school-record 14-game winning streak, while their 13-0 start is by far the best in program history.

  • JAY GARCIA | BRIDGEWATER | FORWARD
Garcia, a senior from Harrisonburg, Va., filled up the stat sheet in leading Bridgewater to a pair of conference victories last week. In a 70-53 triumph at Roanoke on Wednesday, Garcia registered the first of her two double-doubles on the week with 17 points and 13 rebounds (all defensive). She was 7-of-12 from the field and chipped in three assists with three blocked shots. On Saturday, Garcia again cracked double figures in points and rebounds in the Eagles' 85-72 victory over Guilford. She went 7-of-14 from the field and 10-of-12 from the stripe on the way to 25 points with 10 boards (6 defensive). She handed out three assists and came away with a steal. For the season, Garcia is averaging 12.2 points and an ODAC fourth-best 9.5 rebounds per contest. She is eighth in assists to turnover ratio (1.2), ninth in assists (40), and 11th in free throw shooting (.750, 45-of-60).

  • MARY SCHLEUSNER | WASHINGTON AND LEE | FORWARD
Schleusner, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., continued her trek towards rare record book recognition with a stellar week on both ends of the floor in No. 6 Washington and Lee's 2-0 week in ODAC play. The Generals are now 13-0 on the season, easily ranking as the best start in program history and sitting one win shy of tying the Generals' 14-game school-record winning streak from the 2023-24 campaign. Schleusner barely put a wrong foot forward in WLU's 66-43 victory at Randolph on Wednesday. She went 9-of-13 from the field and buried all four of her foul shots on the way to 22 points in just 19 minutes of action. She pulled down 12 rebounds (4 offensive) and handed out four assists to go with a blocked shot. On Saturday in an eagerly anticipated matchup of nationally-ranked foes, Schleusner notched a season-high 36 points with 17 rebounds (4 offensive) in a 69-52 triumph over No. 23 Shenandoah. She was 15-of-26 from the field and 6-of-8 from the line. She tacked on two assists, a steal, and two blocked shots. For the season, Schleusner leads the ODAC in scoring (20.8), rebounding (16.0), and blocked shots (30). She is fifth in assist to turnover ratio (1.4), seventh in field goal shooting (.495, 101-of-204), eighth in assists (41), and 14th in steals (27). Schleusner's 11 double-doubles are tied for third in Division III and the ODAC. She is now just 55 rebounds shy of the Division III career record, which is held by former Denison University standout Jordan Holmes (2014-17) at 1,711. She has scored 2,076 career points, fifth-most in ODAC history.
