Yellow Jackets Top ODAC Men's Volleyball Preseason Poll

New Programs for Bridgewater, Shenandoah Begin Varsity Play

FOREST, Va. --- Welcome to year two of ODAC men's volleyball with the second season of the conference's newest sport offering ready to begin its season.

Defending ODAC champion Randolph-Macon College headlines the ODAC Men's Volleyball Preseason Poll for a second straight season, garnering 64 points powered by a maximum eight first place votes from the league's head coaches. Roanoke College collected the remaining top nod towards 53 tallies, while Randolph College rounds out the top-three with 46 markers.

The conference's contingent of sponsoring programs increases to nine in 2026 with new outfits at Bridgewater College and Shenandoah University joining Averett, EMU, University of Lynchburg, Virginia Wesleyan University, and the previously noted Randolph, Randolph-Macon, and Roanoke.

In the sections below, we look back to the 2025 season to set the tone for this year and then dive into some features of ODAC men's volleyball for the upcoming 2026 campaign.

    • The ODAC's first men's volleyball regular season saw five of the league's seven programs post better than .400 winning percentages with Randolph-Macon and Roanoke both winning a league-best 22 contests.
      • ODAC teams went an even 56-56 in non-conference matches.
    • All teams competed in a 12-match double round-robin conference slate with the Yellow Jackets running the table at 12-0 to claim the regular season crown and top seed in the first ODAC Tournament. 
      • The rest of the four-team field included (in order) Roanoke, EMU, and Virginia Wesleyan
      • Semifinals: RMC def. VWU, 3-0; RC def. EMU, 3-0
      • Championship: RMC def. RC, 3-0
    • ODAC champion Randolph-Macon earned the league's automatic entry into the Division III championship bracket of 19 teams.
    • The Yellow Jackets traveled to Stevens Institute of Technology in one of three five-team early round pods.
      • RMC met Nichols College in the first round with the Bison claiming a 3-1 win
    • The national semifinals and finals were hosted by Roanoke College in conjunction with the City of Salem and the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC).
      • Southern Virginia University defeated Juniata defeated Juniata College in an epic 3-2 semifinal, while Springfield College took down Cal Lutheran University, 3-0, in the other semifinal
      • SVU earned a 3-0 win over Springfield in a Monday night showdown with the 5-time champion Pride to claim the Knights first national title in any sport.
    • AVCA Division III Men's Volleyball Poll
      • The AVCA released its annual preseason coaches poll on January 5
      • Randolph-Macon is the lone ODAC school to be included in the first survey, albeit outside of the top-20; the Yellow Jackets (20) are one of 13 programs receiving votes on two or more ballots towards the rankings.
      • Five-time Division III champion Springfield College earned 588 points to top the table with two-time champion Carthage College second at 533 markers; last season's national champion, Southern Virginia University, sits fourth with 471 points behind fellow CVC member Juniata College (499).
  • Fans that experienced the first season of ODAC men's volleyball will be excited by the amount of returning All-ODAC standouts. All but six of the 24 all-league stars from year one are back in 2026 including five members of the All-ODAC First Team plus four of the special individual honors awarded in 2025.

    Randolph-Macon leads with all five of its all-conference honorees ready to defend their 2025 title for head coach Christian Taylor, who earned the first ODAC Coach of the Year award for men's volleyball. The Yellow Jackets contingent also includes the return of setter Kody Rogan after being selected the first ODAC Offensive Player of the Year.

    Roanoke welcomes back four All-ODAC standouts including ODAC Defensive Player of the Year Colin Mendoza from his middle position. Lynchburg is buoyed by opposite Nick Redding among their two all-conference honorees following his ODAC Rookie of the Year campaign in 2025.
