The 2026 men's lacrosse season officially kicked off this weekend with three schools active. Randolph-Macon picked up an 11-8 win over Sewanee on Sunday following Averett falling to SCAD, 24-2, and Hampden-Sydney coming up short, 10-7, against nationally third-ranked Christopher Newport.

  • MIKE ALLEN | RANDOLPH-MACON | DEFENSEMAN
Allen, a senior from Williamsburg, Va., kicked off the defense of his ODAC Defensive Player of the Year award season with a stellar effort in helping Randolph-Macon open its 2026 slate with an 11-8 victory over Sewanee. Allen caused five turnovers and came away with four ground balls to spearhead the defensive effort, but he also got involved in the Yellow Jackets' attack with an assist on Charlie Hilgartner's second collegiate goal for a 4-2 lead early in the second quarter.

  • CHARLIE HILGARTNER | RANDOLPH-MACON | ATTACK
Hilgartner, a freshman from Severna Park, Md., began his collegiate career with a monster game in helping Randolph-Macon begin its 2026 slate with an 11-8 victory over Sewanee. Hilgartner put together a five-point game with four goals and an assist. His first collegiate goal was an unassisted effort to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead with 5:13 on the first quarter clock. His first point, however, came on RMC's opener when he assisted Matt Carter on the game's first goal with 5:43 on the board. Hilgartner later added three goals in the second quarter to help stake Randolph-Macon to an 8-5 halftime lead. He also chipped in two ground balls.
