ODAC Men's Volleyball Report: Week 5

Week five featured 16 matches in ODAC men's volleyball with one league outing where Shenandoah defeated Bridgewater, 3-1, for the Hornets' first-ever ODAC victory. ODAC teams went 8-7 in non-conference play with Randolph picking up three wins and Virginia Wesleyan going 2-0. Averett also picked up two wins. VWU leads the way at 8-1 overall, while Randolph (7-3) and Randolph-Macon (7-1) have both won seven matches.

  • AHMED DIALLO | RANDOLPH | MIDDLE
    Diallo, a sophomore from Aurora, Colo., put together four strong matches on both ends of the net in helping Randolph rattle off a 3-1 week against non-conference competition. Defensively, Diallo registered eight total blocks and 29 digs while adding 46 kills, two assists, and three aces offensively. In a 3-0 win over Carlow on Friday, Diallo went for eight kills and two aces plus two digs and a block. Later that day in a 3-2 triumph over Grove City, he posted 12 kills and 12 digs to go with three block assists. Diallo kicked off his Saturday with 10 kills and an ace plus three digs and a pair of blocks in a 3-0 shutout of Mount Aloysius. In a 3-2 loss to Olivet, he registered 16 kills and 12 digs with two more blocks. For the season, Diallo is second in the ODAC in kills (89) and total points (109), third in points per set (3.52), and fifth in kills per set (2.87).

  • JAMARHE WILLS | VIRGINIA WESLEYAN | OUTSIDE
    Wills, a junior from Newport News, Va., had his most explosive set of matches over now three straight weeks of claiming ODAC offensive weekly awards in leading Virginia Wesleyan to a pair of non-conference victories. Wills averaged an eye-opening 7.13 points and 6.63 kills in racking up 63 kills at a .603 clip on just 78 swings to lead the Marlins to a pair of 3-1 wins over Eastern and Marymount (Va.). Against Eastern, Wills tied an ODAC record with a league season-high 28 kills with a .479 attack percentage. He added two aces, five digs, and a pair of block assists. Against the Saints, Wills dominated with 25 kills against just one error on 30 swings for an .800 attack percentage, the best mark for any player with at least 20 attempts in a match in Division III this season. He chipped in two assists, an ace, and three digs to his effort. For the season, Wills leads the ODAC in kills (135), kills per set (4.82), attack percentage (.474, 135-25-232), points (154), and points per set (5.50). He is third in aces (14). Nationally, Wills is third in the country in kills per set, fourth in total kills and points per set, and 10th in hitting percentage.
