ODAC Baseball Report: Week 7

ODAC teams completed 23 games last week with one suspended due to darkness that will be finished at a later date. Sixteen of those overall outings featured conference matchups with several teams now reaching double figures for ODAC games played. Nationally second-ranked Lynchburg went 4-0 to improve its winning streak to 12 straight. The Hornets (20-3-1) have created some separation in ODAC outings at 10-0-1 with Randolph-Macon (7-3), No. 6 Shenandoah (7-4), and Washington and Lee (7-4-1) chasing from behind. Shenandoah, at 22-4, has won the most games in the league overall with No. 13 Bridgewater (20-4) also above 20 victories already.

  • TYLER KALTREIDER | LYNCHBURG | SP
Kaltreider, a senior from Warrenton, Va., is back in the awards circle after leading nationally second-ranked Lynchburg to a 10-0 win over Roanoke on Sunday. Kaltreider tossed seven shutout innings and allowed just six baserunners on three hits, two walks, and a hit batter. He struck out seven Maroons and held them to a .143 batting average. He rolled up eight ground ball outs over his 96-pitch outing and set down 12-of-13 batters over the middle innings. For the season, Kaltreider is 5-0 with a 2.88 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 40.2 innings.

  • JACK POKORAK | LYNCHBURG | 1ST BASE
Pokorak, a senior from Dumfries, Va., impacted the scoreboard more than any other player in the ODAC last week, driving in 16 runs and scoring four times to help nationally second-ranked Lynchburg to a 4-0 week. The Hornets have won 12 straight games and are currently 20-3-1 overall. In a 7-4 win at Randolph-Macon on Tuesday, Pokorak went 2-for-4 with two RBI. He also walked and stole a base. In an 18-0 non-conference win over Greensboro on Wednesday, Pokorak crushed a grand slam over the left field fence to give Lynchburg an 8-0 lead in the second inning. He was also hit by a pitch against the Pride. In a doubleheader sweep (18-1, 10-0) over Roanoke on Sunday, Pokorak combined to go 4-for-9 with 10 RBI and three runs scored. In game two, he drove in nine runs to tie for the second-most in a single-game in Division III this season. He hit a two-run shot to open the scoring in the first inning, added on more with a ground out in the second, belted his second grand slam of the week in a sixth, and returned to the dish later that inning to cap the game's scoring with a two-run single up the middle. For the season, Pokorak is hitting .392 (38-of-97) with a 1.218 OPS. He has rapped 17 extra-base hits with six doubles, a triple, and a Division III second-best 10 homers.
