Bhatt has Company at the Top, Generals Tied for Fourth After Second Round of NCAA Women's Golf

Randolph-Macon Makes Cut, Sits 14th Overall

PALM DESERT, Calif. --- Washington and Lee University first-year Toral Bhatt held serve in round two, but she now has company atop the individual leaderboard following 36 holes at the Division III Women's Golf Championships in Palm Desert, California.

Nationally 10th-ranked Washington and Lee put together a second straight strong day as a unit, posting an 8-over par team round of 296 to sit tied for fourth with No. 9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 12-over 588, six shots behind top-ranked Emory University following two days of play at Desert Willow Golf Resort.

Randolph-Macon College, ranked 13th in Division III, joins WLU as one of 15 teams to make the post-second round cut to play in rounds three and four on Thursday and Friday, respectively. The Yellow Jackets carded a 23-over 311 team round on Wednesday, put them at 35-over 611.

Bhatt, the individual leader at 3-under following yesterday's first round on the Mountain View course, registered an even-par 72 following her first go on the 5,883-yard Firecliff course. Firecill will be used for the remainder of the tournament for those teams and individuals that made the 36-hole cut.

Ranked 40th in the country, Bhatt posted two birdies to offset two bogeys in another steady round highlighted by 14 pars. She is tied with 25th-ranked Jessica Mason from Trinity University (Texas) and third-ranked YoYo Fu from No. 2 New York University at 3-under 141. They are one stroke clear of five players tied at 2-under par.

Randolph-Macon's Morgan Mussatt both leads the Yellow Jackets in scoring and is the second highest-placing ODAC player in the field at 2-over 146. Also playing on Firecliff for the first time, Mussatt posted a 2-over 74 that featured three birdies.

Statistically, Bhatt is tied for third in par-4 scoring (-1, 3.95), tied for fifth in birdies (7), and tied for seventh on par-5's (-3, 4.63). Mussatt is No. 2 in par-5 scoring (-5, 4.38) and owns one of only two eagles through 36 holes.

Washington and Lee ranks inside the top-10 in several categories including par-5 scoring (3rd - -5, 4.88), par-3 scoring (T4th - +11, 3.27), birdies (T6th - 22), and par-4 scoring (10th - +28, 4.28). Randolph-Macon is eighth on par-3's (+14, 3.35).
