Generals Hold Serve in Fourth, Randolph-Macon Up Two Spots at NCAA Women's Golf

Haetzel Ties for Best Score of the Third Round

PALM DESERT, Calif. --- Nationally 10th-ranked Washington and Lee University registered a third straight strong team round to remain in fourth place, while No. 13 Randolph-Macon College improved 11 strokes from its second round tally to move into 12th position following three rounds of play at the Division III Women's Golf Championship at Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert, California.

Generals' first-year Toral Bhatt buoyed the squad over the first two days as the first round leader and 36-hole co-leader. Round three was a bit different with Bhatt posting a 10-over 82 to drop into a tie for 26th at 7-over 223 along with teammate Bella Scucchi, who along with her three other WLU teammates led the blue & white to a 6-over 294 team round, the unit's second-best round over the first 54 holes of play. The Generals are 18-over (882) trailing only No. 1 Emory University (870), No. 3 Carnegie Mellon University (871), and No. 2 New York University (882).

WLU senior Julia Haetzel, winner of the 2023 ODAC individual medal as a rookie, enjoyed the single largest turnaround of any player in the field. Haetzel tied for low score of the round with a 3-under 69, helping her improve by 68 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 64th at 19-over 235.

Randolph-Macon climbed to 12th from 14th by matching the team's first-round score with a 12-over 300. The Yellow Jackets are at 47-over 911, 13 strokes back of No. 9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and No. 7 Washington University in St. Louis for a spot in the top-10.

RMC junior Morgan Mussatt, the ODAC Golfer of the Year, is the top-ranked ODAC player in the field in a tie for 14th at 4-over 220. She and teammates Lilly Hall and Alexis Haller all registered scores of 2-over 74.

Six players are under par for the tournament. CMU's Emma Wong is the 54-hole leader at 4-under 212.

Statistically, Mussatt and Scucchi are making major hay on par-5's. Mussatt is second in scoring (-6, 4.50), while Scucchi is tied for third (-5, 4.58). Scucchi is tied for fourth in birdies (11), while Mussatt and WLU's Mackenzie Cline have carded two of only four eagles in the tournament.

From a team perspective, WLU is second in par-5 scoring (-9, 4.85), fourth in birdies (34), and tied for ninth in par-4 scoring (+39, 4.26). RMC is sixth in par-3 scoring (+15, 3.25).

Washington and Lee tees off in Friday's final round the same as it did on Thursday with the second group of teams at 10:50 a.m. ET on the first hole. Randolph-Macon plays 20 minutes earlier starting at 10:00 a.m. ET and begins on the first hole as opposed to the 10th hole, which was the Yellow Jackets starting point for round three.
