Maroons Dominate Saints to Open NCAA Men's Lacrosse Play

Roanoke Travels to Salisbury on the Weekend, Squares Off with Host Sea Gulls

SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke College allowed just three goals through 45 minutes of play and commanded an 18-1 lead after three quarters on the way to a dominating 22-7 win over Marymount University (Va.) in the first round of the Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship on Wednesday in Salem.

With the win, the Maroons (14-5) advance to round two where they meet Salisbury University on their home turf as part of a four-team second and third round pod hosted on the Eastern Shore. The Roanoke and the Sea Gulls (16-3) clash at 4:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, which precedes the RIT (15-4) and Elmhurst College (15-3) tilt at 6:00 p.m. ET.

The winners of those two second round games meet for a spot in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. ET. Watch all games live on NCAA Championship Pass.

Attackman Julian Kammerman led seven Maroons with two or more points with seven markers on five goals and two assists. Patrick Cullen registered five points (2g, 3a), while Tyler Schmelzer chipped in four (4g) and Charlie Ryan three (2g, 1a).

Long-stick Noah Elazar and face-off man TJ Harris led Roanoke with four ground balls each, but the face-off circle was one area where the Saints enjoyed the advantage. Marymount claimed 20-of-32 (.625) showdowns with Winston Horshaw going 17-of-24 with a game-high 12 ground balls. Ian Fructuoso led MMT with three goals scored.

Both teams employed a pair of goalkeepers with Alex Feuer (2 GA, 6 saves) and David Hamilton (5 GA, 4 saves) splitting time evenly for the Maroons. Connor Howard (39:42, 18 GA, 15 saves) and Jacob Brooks (20:18, 4 GA, 5 saves) stood as the last line for the Saints.
