ODAC Cross Country Report: Week 3

The first championship distances of the season were logged by ODAC runners as they competed in a series of meets that including 6K women's races and 8K men's events. League runners continue to show at a high level with multiple race winners and highly-ranked times that make anticipation for the ODAC Championships – let alone the rest of the season – an exciting feeling.

ODAC Top Times Reports

  • ESTER ZAR | BATTEN UNIVERSITY
    Zar, a sophomore from Jonkoping, Sweden, picks up her second straight ODAC weekly honor after winning the South Regional Preview hosted by the University of Lynchburg at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va. Zar topped the 128-runner field with a time of 21:58.8 – the 3rd-fastest 6K time in Batten University program history – 12.5 seconds clear of Bayleigh Armstrong from Southern Virginia University. Zar kept nearly an identical pace from her Marlins' 5K record-breaking time (18:18.1) last week at the SU Twilight Open, posting a 5:53.7 per-mile average (5:53.4 last week).

    Batten placed fifth in a field of 16 teams from across the region. The Marlins' 133 points trailed only Lynchburg (3rd - 104) among ODAC participants. Saint Francis (Pa.) won with 79 markers.

  • MATT KELLY | WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
    Kelly, a graduate/law school student from Westlake, Ohio, led Washington and Lee's contingent in a strong field of competitors at the Cardinal Invitational hosted by Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn. Kelly, a transfer student from Johns Hopkins University, placed fourth in the 131-runner field with a time of 24:36.2. He used a pace of 4:56.9 per mile to finish behind three runners from fellow nationally-ranked programs – Dylan Cote (1st - 24:12.4) from No. 17 Wesleyan, Everett Mosher (2nd - 24:16.7) from No. 28 WPI, and Harrison Dow (3rd - 24:33.6) from No. 20 Amherst.

    Nationally 12th-ranked Washington and Lee placed fourth in the nine-team field with 72 points despite competing without a few of their top runners due to injury or illness. Amherst won the meet with 45 markers.
