ODAC Wrestling Report: Week 11

  • JOHN RYAN SEDOVY | WASHINGTON AND LEE | SR. | 285 LBS. | LEXINGTON, VA.
    Sedovy, a senior from Lexington, Va., made a strong bid to earn rankings by the NWCA in their next publication after going 5-0 at 285 pounds at the Budd Whitehill Duals to lead Washington and Lee to third-place in the well-attended national event. The Generals team showing is their best since earning entry into the tournament in 2019. Sedovy earned four of his wins against wrestlers from nationally-ranked programs. In the first of three matches in pod competition, Sedovy helped lead WLU to wins over #22 Ohio Northern (W, 23-16), host and 21st-ranked Lycoming (W, 34-10), and York (Pa.)(W, 31-12). Sedovy earned a 4-1 decision over Jadon Brownlee from ONU and a 4-2 decision over Robbie West from LYCO. Those wrestlers are ranked fifth in the NWCA's Central and Southeast Regions, respectively. Sedovy then picked upa  4-0 decision over York's Derek Martin. In the semifinals, WLU loss to #8 Stevens (W, 31-13), but Sedovy dominated Maximo Ruiz on the way to an 11-3 major decision. In the third place match, the Generals downed fellow ODAC foe and 19th-ranked Roanoke (W, 23-18). Sedovy earned a sudden-victory-1 (4-1) decision over Brady Elswick. Sedovy's win over Elswick provided the winning points for WLU over RC.

  • EVAN LINDNER | WASHINGTON AND LEE | SO. | 149 LBS. | NEW MILFORD, CONN.
    Lindner, a sophomore from New Milford, Conn., went 5-0 at 149 pounds to help Washington and Lee clinch its best-ever finish at the Budd Whitehill Duals, placing third overall in the well-attended national event. Lindner, the fourth-ranked wrestler at 149 pounds in the NWCA's Southeast Region, picked up four victories against wrestlers from nationally-ranked programs. In pod competition, he dominated his three opponents from #22 Ohio Northern, host and 21st-ranked Lycoming, and York (Pa.), winning each by technical fall. He drubbed Colton Spurgeon from ONU, 23-6, on the way toa  23-16 team win. He tech'd Wiley Kahler from LYCO at 17-1 towards a 34-10 team triumph. His tech fall against YCP's Joseph Cinquemani came after a 20-5 accumulation in the Generals 31-12 team win. In the semifinals, WLU lost to #7 Stevens, 31-13, but Lindner posted an 8-1 decision over Pasquale Vizzoni, the third-ranked competitor in the NWCA's Southeast Region. Lindner then helped WLU score a 23-18 win over fellow ODAC foe and 19th-ranked Roanoke to secure third place. He earned a second-straight 8-1 decision, this time over the Maroons' Jarrod Pominville.
