ODAC Announces All-ODAC Wrestling Awards

WLU's Flanagan, RC's Cafurello, Parent, Yetzer Collect Honors

FOREST, Va. --- ODAC wrestling has left fans both impressed and eager for more following the success of conference teams and athletes this season. As we close out year four of the return of the sport to the conference's sponsorship, the ODAC is pleased to announce the 2025-26 All-ODAC Wrestling Awards.

Washington and Lee University sophomore Liam Flanagan collects the Generals' first ODAC special award as the ODAC Wrestler of the Year. Stars from Roanoke College garnered the remaining three highlight honors. Maroons' mentor Nate Yetzer earned his third straight ODAC Coach of the Year plaque from his peers, while the league's coaches chose first-year Cade Parent as the ODAC Rookie of the Year. Senior Mac Cafurello received ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognition from the conference's athletic communications personnel.

In addition to this season's special awards, the conference formally announces the All-ODAC Wrestling Teams. All-ODAC status was achieved by competition at the conference championships at Shenandoah University in February. Any wrestler that won a weight class title earned All-ODAC First Team recognition. Second and third place finishers garnered All-ODAC Second and Third Team honors, respectively. Eligibility criteria for ODAC Wrestler of the Year includes All-ODAC First Team status as a weight-class champion. ODAC Rookie of the Year eligibility is open to wrestlers that enjoyed their first season of collegiate competition regardless of actual academic class.

Flanagan put together a stellar second season in Lexington at 157 pounds. He went 21-0 during the regular season and added three more wins at the ODAC Championships on the way to claiming the weight class title. The Harrisburg, Pennsylvania-native earned the top seed at the NCAA Division III Region #4 Championship hosted by Ohio Northern University. He ran through that bracket, winning twice by fall and adding two more decisive wins by decision to win the regional crown and improve to 28-0. At the NCAA Division III Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Flanagan competed as the No. 5 seed. He won his first two bouts to ensure All-American honors and bring his overall win total to 30. He finished the event in sixth place at 157 pounds with a 30-3 season record.

Yetzer is now a three-time ODAC Coach of the Year, pairing this year's honor with awards he earned in each of the previous two seasons. The Maroons went 15-0 in all duals and 6-0 in ODAC matchups to secure the league regular season title. Three Maroons won ODAC weight-class titles. Roanoke then made history as the regional champion with Yetzer and his staff earning a pair of coaching staff awards. Nine Maroons qualified for nationals with four going on to earn All-America status. Roanoke placed sixth as a team at the national championships with 57.0 points.

Parent had about as good a first season as a wrestler could, posting a 28-11 overall record at 165 pounds through competition at the Division III championships. The Alpharetta, Georgia-native went 22-8 during the regular season. While he did not compete at the ODAC championship, Parent starred at the regional event. Competing as the second seed, he went 3-1 to finish as the runner-up and earn a spot at the national championships. Parent went 3-2 as the No. 13 seed, winning first bout before falling in his second. He won two more times with eyes on day two, but was eliminated in his fifth bout.

Cafurello, a graduate student from Clifton, Va., stars on and off the mat for Roanoke. In the classroom, Cafurello earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics education before returning to Roanoke where he owns a 4.0 grade point average in its Masters of Education program. A Maroons' team captain for five years, Cafurello is a four-time Scholar All-American that previous won the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year award in 2023-24.On the mat, Cafurello went 20-2 at 125 pounds with his only losses coming at the national championships. He went 15-0 during the regular season and moved on to claim the weight-class title at the NCAA regionals. He went 1-2 in Cedar Rapids with a win in his second bout.
