For third straight season, five competitors have advanced to the second day of competition at the Division III Wrestling Championships. Four of those athletes don Roanoke College colors with the fifth carrying the Washington and Lee University flag as each has secured All-American honors as top-eight competitors in their weight classes at the Alliant Energy Power House in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The Maroons are currently sitting fourth in the team table at 45.5 points. The Generals are 23rd with 14.0 points, and Averett University is tied for 46th with 4.5 markers.
Four the conference's day two competitors have a shot at winning their weight class titles. Roanoke's Mark Samuel remains on track to defend his 2025 championship at 141 pounds after going 2-0 as the top seed on Friday. Fellow Maroon Jude Robson also went 2-0 as the fifth seed at 133 pounds. That puts him in the semifinals, while teammate Hunter Moore needed one more bout at 184 pounds reach the semis. He opened as the 14th seed, which required an extra “championship preliminary” match, which he won to kickstart his 3-0 day.
WLU's Liam Flanagan accounts for the remaining title-seeking wrestler from an ODAC school. He went 2-0 as the fifth seed at 157 pounds.
RC's Xavier Preston will also be active on Saturday. He won his first bout as the 10th seed at 174 pounds, but he dropped his second to put him in the consolation bracket. He added a second win to stay in the competition and compete for as high as third place on day two.
