CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Roanoke College star Mark Samuel nearly turned in a second national championship performance on Saturday afternoon in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to highlight a five-podium day for ODAC competitors on the second day of the Division III Wrestling Championships at the Alliant Energy Power House.
Samuel, the champion at 141 pounds in 2025, finished as the runner-up to Wartburg's Kade Blume by the narrowest of margins via a 4-3 decision. Samuel closed the two-day affair at 3-1.
Teammate Jude Robson had the second-best showing of the day with third-place distinction at 133 pounds. He made up for a loss (dec. 6-3) to Garrett Totten (TCNJ) with wins by decision in his next two bouts including a 5-2 triumph over Jake Craig from Southern Maine to her his place on the podium. Robson went 4-1 overall.
Roanoke's Hunter Moore and Washington and Lee University's Liam Flanagan earned sixth-place finishes. Moore went 3-3 at 184 pounds, while Flanagan posted a 2-3 record at 157 pounds.
The ODAC's final day two wrestler was RC's Xavier Preston. He went 2-3 to place eighth at 174 pounds.
Roanoke made history by placing sixth in the team table, the highest for the ODAC since the sport's return in 2022-23. The Maroons garnered 57.0 points, while WLU finished 31st with 14.0 markers and Averett University tied for 46th with 4.5 points.
