GREENSBORO, N.C. --- Washington and Lee University continued its dominance of the ODAC's swimming ranks by hoisting both conference trophies following four days of competition in the ODAC Swimming Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The Generals have earned nine of the 10 men's championships competed under the league's banner, while Saturday's last event sealed the 33rd title for WLU's women's programs. Both totals stand as ODAC swimming records.
The University of Lynchburg took home second in the men's team standings, out-pacing both third place Roanoke College and fourth-place Bridgewater College in a hotly contest showdown. Roanoke and Lynchburg were tight for second place in the women's table with the Maroons beating the Hornets to the silver medal. Both are second and third, respectively, for the second straight season.
In addition to handing out the annual team trophies, several individual awards were announced following the championships. In the women's ranks, WLU's Brynn Martinson was named the ODAC Swimmer of the Meet, while first-year teammate Katie Crawford took home ODAC Rookie of the Meet Laurels. The men's ODAC Swimmer of the Meet distinction went to Roanoke's Ethan Brewer, while Bridgewater first-year Zachary Erb garnered ODAC Rookie of the Meet honors.
Washington and Lee mentor Kami Gardner claimed both ODAC Coach of the Year awards, while Generals teammates Molly Pennisi and Matthew Fritz received ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors from the leagues athletic communications personnel.
Bridgewater senior Luke Wintersgill was recognized by the ODAC's coaches with the Bonnie Kestner Sportsmanship Award.
