ODAC Swimming Report: Week 1

Swimming is officially in full gear with the first dual and tri-meets of the season. Most league schools kicked off action the previous weekend at the ODAC Relays, which features an event schedule of standard and non-standard disciplines. Hollins and Randolph both hosted multi-team events over the past week with Hampden-Sydney, Virginia Wesleyan, and Washington and Lee participating in dual outings.

  • MARIA JELLIG | WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
    Jellig, a senior from Haddonfield, N.J., won three times individually and joined her teammates to a third-place finish in one relay as Washington and Lee opened the dual season with a 162-100 win over the University of Mary Washington. Jellig took top marks in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events at 0:59.74 and 2:10.39, respectively. Both times top the early season conference performance chart. Jellig also won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:12.71, which is also tops on the league list. In the 200-yard medley relay, Jellig swam the lead backstroke leg with a 0:28.45 split. She was joined by teammates Morgan Smith, Marcy Mortimer, and Grace Bentley in finishing third at 1:52.07.

  • DALTON JOBE | WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
    Jobe, a senior from Henrico, Va., posted three individual wins and one relay victory in helping Washington and Lee open the dual season with a 182-80 home win over the University of Mary Washington. All three of Jobe's individual wins came in freestyle events. He won the 100-yard free at 0:46.38, the 200-yard free at 1:42.19, and the 500-yard free at 4:50.82. The latter two times top the early season ODAC top-times charts. Jobe swam the anchor leg of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay. He joined teammates Leighton Chapman, George Libecco, and Charles Byars on a time of 3:09.47.
