ODAC Swimming Report: Week 5

Several ODAC programs competed in dual or tri-meets, while Washington and Lee split its squad to both compete in a dual meet and send several swimmers to the Chicago Shootout hosted by the University of Chicago.

  • MARIA JELLIG | WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
    Jellig, a senior from Haddonfield, N.J., collects her second ODAC weekly award after helping Washington and Lee to a ninth place showing at the elite Chicago Shootout hosted by the University of Chicago. Jellig accounted for a team-best 73 points as she competed in four individual events and a pair of relays and set ODAC top times in each discipline. She placed fourth in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:04.66. She chimed in sixth in both the 100-yard back stroke and 200-yard IM with times of 0:58.17 and 2:10.28, respectively. She added a seventh place showing in the 400-yard IM at 4:34.70. In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Jellig swam leadoff with an extracted time of 1:57.32, which counts as the top 200-yard freestyle time in the ODAC. She joined teammates Celia Bredehoeft, Marcy Mortimer, and Gabby Clemens on a ninth-place time of 7:51.72. In the 400-yard medley, Jellig again hit the water in the leadoff position with teammates Frances Fenton, Peighton Kruzel, and Amelia Maloof. They finished eighth at 3:54.60.

  • DALTON JOBE | WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
    Jobe, a senior from Henrico, Va., earns his third ODAC weekly award of the season after helping Washington and Lee place eighth at the elite Chicago Shootout hosted by the University of Chicago. Jobe eclipsed the NCAA B-cut standard in finishing second in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:38.85. He added a pair of fourth place showings in the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard IM with times of 4:34.08 and 1:51.82, respectively. He added a 17th-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 0:58.27. That latter time is second-best in the ODAC, while the other three top the league charts. His 200-free time is third-fastest in Division III. Jobe also competed in a pair of relays. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Jobe swam third with Leighton Chapman, Thomas Denton, and Charles Byars. They finished fourth at 1:23.43. The Generals 800-yard freestyle relay team posted a time of 6:53.79 to also finish fourth. Jobe swam the anchor leg with Chapman, Denton, and Byars.
