ODAC Swimming Report: Week 8

  • CELIA BREDEHOEFT | WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
    Bredehoeft, a sophomore from Vienna, Va., etched her name into the Washington and Lee and ODAC record books on Saturday in the Generals' 160-101 dual meet loss to No. 19 Johns Hopkins University Bredehoeft reset school and conference records in the 1,000-yard freestyle, winning the event with a time of 10:22.93. That snapped the record of 10:26.75 set back former Washington and Lee standout Mattie Grant at the ODAC Championships in 2020. Bredehoeft also won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:07.60. That is her best mark in the event this season and slots second in the conference by 0.32 seconds to Roanoke's Carter Satterfield.

  • DALTON JOBE | WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
    Jobe, a senior from Henrico, Va., continued his strong season with a trio of individual events victories and one relay win in the Generals' tri-meet losses to No. 13 TCNJ (178.5-53.5) and No. 14 Johns Hopkins (182-80). Jobe won the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle events with times of 0:46.13 and 1:41.09, respectively. Those times would slot fourth and second in the ODAC, the latter second to his own season-best mark (1:38.85). Jobe also won the 200-yard IM in 1:53.42, which trails only the previously-set season-best times by Bridgewater's Zachary Erb (1:50.21) and his own mark of 1:50.95. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Jobe swam the anchor leg with teammates Leighton Chapman, Charles Byars, and Thomas Denton. They finished second with a time of 1:24.54.

    • Bridgewater's McKenna Curry won the 100-yard (1:02.30) and 200-yard (2:23.46) butterfly events contributed to 2nd place finishes in the 200-medley (1:59.92) and 200-free (1:45.97) relays in the Eagles' 142-117 loss to Roanoke.
    • Randolph-Macon's Kelsey James won the 100-back (1:01.22) and 100-free (0:56.23) and helped her teammates win the 200-medley (1:53.51) and 200-free (1:43.44) relays in the Yellow Jackets' 176-85 victory over Marymount (Va.).
    • Roanoke's Halle Schart won the 200-free (2:00.96) and 200-IM (2:16.71) and helped her teammates win the 200-medley (1:53.95) and 200-free (1:42.99) relays in the Maroons' 142-117 win over Bridgewater.
    • Bridgewater All-American Zachary Erb won the 100-yard (0:58.22) and 200-yard (2:10.71) breaststroke events plus the 200-IM (1:58.66) in the Eagles' 131-131 tie with Roanoke. Erb also helped the BC 200-medley relay team to a 2nd place time (1:37.78).
    • Roanoke's Tyler Hill won the 100-yard (0:51.87) and 200-yard (1:58.95) butterfly events in the Maroons' 131-131 tied with Bridgewater. He also helped RC win the 200-free relay (1:27.95) and finished 2nd in the 200-medley relay (1:38.35).
