ODAC Swimming Report: Week 3

The ODAC swimming schedule saw an uptick both in general activity and really strong results with several posted times ranking in the top-100 on the Division III performance chart.

  • PEIGHTON KRUZEL | WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
    Kruzel, a sophomore from Flower Mound, Texas, collects her first ODAC weekly honor after winning twice individually and adding a relay victory in nationally 25th-ranked Washington and Lee's 193-68 triumph over Lynchburg. Kruzel won both the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly events with times of 0:58.55 and 2:11.81, respectively. Her 100-fly mark is tops on the ODAC chart and ranks 30th in Division III, while her 200-fly time is second in the conference only to her previous season-best mark (2:10.56), which ranks 26th in the country. Kruzel swam the third leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay team. She joined Maria Jellig, Frances Felton, and Amelia Maloof in posting a time of 1:49.75, which is No. 1 in the ODAC and 22nd in the nation.

  • LEIGHTON CHAPMAN | WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
    Chapman, a junior from Houston, Texas, enjoyed four gold medal finishes on the way to his first ODAC weekly award of the season following Washington and Lee's 177-85 win over Lynchburg. Chapman won the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events with times of 0:20.83 and 0:46.77, respectively. His 50-free time is No. 1 on the ODAC table and ranks 14th in Division III. His 100-free mark would slot roughly 32nd in the country had he not already posted the ODAC's best time at 0:46.29, which is perched 16th in the nation. Chapman also contributed to a pair of relay wins. In the 200-yard medley relay, Chapman swam the anchor leg and joined Charles Byars, Harrison Cerone, and Zane Ross on a winning time of 1:32.37. Chapman then moved to the lead-leg in the 200-yard freestyle relay, posting a 0:21.18 split on the way to a winning time of 1:24.12 with Thomas Denton, Byars, and Dalton Jobe. The 200-medley time is No. 1 in the ODAC and 10th in Division III, while the 200-free mark is second in the conference only to WLU's previous-best time of 1:23.30, which is third in the nation.

    • Bridgewater's Annabelle Dragan won the 1000-free (11:48.77) and 200-back (2:19.29) in BC's 176-86 loss to Lynchburg.
    • Lynchburg's Abigail Schneider won twice individually and posted four second-place showings over two meets – 177-85 loss to Washington and Lee and 176-86 win over Bridgewater. In those meets, respectively, she competed in the 100-back (2nd - 1:02.46 | 1st - 1:03.87), 200-back (1st - 2:30.17 | 2nd - 2:32.76), and 200-IM (2nd - 2:17.15 | 2nd - 2:19.73). She also helped BC finish second in the 200-medley relay (1:51.73) versus WLU and first in the 400-medley relay (4:06.69) against Lynchburg.
    • Randolph-Macon's Kelsey James won the 200-free (2:03.39) and 200-back (2:14.52) and helped RMC finish first in the 200-medley (1:51.64) and 200-free (1:42.34) relays in the Yellow Jackets' 193-69 win over St. Mary's (Md.).
    • Roanoke's Julianna Morrow won the 100-back (0:59.49 - 1st in ODAC) and 200-back (2:09.39) events and helped RC win the 200-medley (1:53.73) and 400-free (3:48.00) relays.
    • Bridgewater's Zachary Erb won the 100-breastroke (0:58.30), 200-breaststroke (2:11.75), and 200-IM (1:59.73) and contributed to a win in the 400-medley relay (3:32.01) in the Eagles' 145-116 loss to Lynchburg.
    • Lynchburg's Jackson Holsten won four times individually with a second place showing and contributed on two relays in the Hornets' split over two meets with Washington and Lee (L, 193-68) and Bridgewater (145-116). In those meets, respectively, he competed in the 1000-free (1st - 10:12.06 & 10:29.13), 500-free (2nd - 4:57.24 | 1st - 4:58.07), and 200-free (1st - 1:48.34 vs. BC) as well as the 200-free relay (7th - 1:35.28 | 5th - 1:35.62).
    • Randolph-Macon's Alex Richardson won the 400-IM (4:25.44 - 1st in ODAC), 200-fly (2:00.44) and 100-free (0:49.87) and contributed to a win in the 200-medley relay (1:39.22) in RMC's 159.5-102.5 triumph over St. Mary's (Md.).
    • Roanoke's Ty Hill won the 100-fly (0:52.05) and 200-fly (2:01.57) and contributed to wins in the 200-medley (1:38.77) and 400-free (3:18.04) relays in the Maroons 165-33 win over Hampden-Sydney.
