ODAC Women's Soccer Report: Week 7

All but one of the 13 games played by ODAC women's soccer teams were checked off as conference matchups. Nationally 10th-ranked Washington and Lee remains atop the ODAC table with 18 points at 6-0-0 in league games and 10-2-1 overall, but Randolph-Macon is right there with 15 points on a 5-0-0 mark against ODAC foes. Randolph joins Randolph-Macon on current three-game winning streaks with WLU on a six-outing victory run. Virginia Wesleyan (13) and Lynchburg (10) also have double figures in points in the conference standings.

  • ABIGAIL PESUT | RANDOLPH-MACON | CENTER BACK
Pesut, a senior from Virginia Beach, Va., helped Randolph-Macon pick up a full six points following a pair of ODAC wins last week. The Yellow Jackets are just three points back of Washington and Lee at 15 markers with a 5-0-0 record in league games. Pesut not only helped RMC post a 2-0 shutout at Guilford on Wednesday, but she was also involved in the scoring. She opened the game's scoring in the 53rd minute when she headed home a corner from Maddie Stubblefield from the top of the six. It marked her first goal of the season and second of her career. After limiting Guilford to just nine total shots (five one goal), Randolph-Macon's Pesut-led defense held Lynchburg to just 10 cracks at the Yellow Jackets goal with only three on-target to give RMC's offense a chance to recover from one-goal down for a 2-1 home victory.

  • McKENNA NEWCOME | SHENANDOAH | MIDFIELDER
Newcome, a sophomore from Capon Bridge, W.Va., was on the mark four times in a pair of ODAC home wins to help Shenandoah pick up six big points in the league table. The Hornets are currently tied with three other squads on nine markers with a 3-2-0 record in league outings. In a big midweek showdown with Bridgewater, Newcome scored the game's only two goals in a 2-0 SU clean sheet. Both of Newcome's tallies were unassisted with her goals coming in the 10th and 49th minutes. The first was a top-of-the-box left-footed rip towards the upper-left corner. Her second came off her own takeaway where she covered 20 yards and hammer home a right-footed low drive from 15 yards. On the weekend, Newcome got help from Kirklyn Wilson on both the Hornets second and third goals in an 8-0 shutout over Hollins. Newcome's goals came at the 7:24 and 9:13 marks. For the season, Newcome is tied for fourth in the ODAC in points (18), tied for fifth in goals (7), and tied for 10th in assists (4). She leads the league in shots (75) and shots on-goal (44).

    • Bridgewater midfielder Kendall Garza scored twice in the Eagles 5-0 win over Guilford.
    • EMU forward Leah Beachy scored once each against Roanoke (L, 4-1) and Sweet Briar (W, 2-0), while keeper Camden Jefferson made seven stops and allowed just one goal over 135:00 with the gloves on.

    • Randolph midfielder Alana Ellis scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Averett for her first goals of the season.
    • Randolph-Macon forward Ally Spangler scored once each in wins at Guilford (2-0) and over Lynchburg (2-1). Her tally against Lynchburg proved to be the winner, marking RMC's first triumph over the Hornets since 2019.
    • Roanoke forward Rebecca Carr scored twice in a 4-1 win over EMU.
    • Virginia Wesleyan keeper Allie Greco made three saves in a 0-0 draw at Lynchburg and was not called upon in 45 minutes of a 6-0 win over Averett.
    • Washington and Lee defender Mary Parrish Green came forward to score twice in a 12-0 win over Sweet Briar. Midfielder Sarah Zimmerman scored once and dished out an assist against the Vixens and added a goal in a 4-0 win over Roanoke.
