ODAC Women's Soccer Report: Week 10

The final weekly report of the ODAC women's soccer season features not only results from the close of the regular season, but also the performances from the quarterfinal round of the ODAC Tournament. Much like on the men's side of the ledger, the bracket seedings have proved predictive with the top-four advancing to the semifinals. Nationally ninth-ranked and top-seed Washington and Lee earned a 9-0 win over eighth-seeded EMU on Saturday, while fourth-seeded Bridgewater turned in a 5-1 triumph over fifth-seeded Randolph-Macon. Third-seeded Shenandoah posted a 2-1 win over sixth-seeded Roanoke, and second-seeded Virginia Wesleyan used a 99th-minute goal to secure a 1-0 overtime victory over seventh-seeded Lynchburg.

  • ERINN LOCKARD | BRIDGEWATER | KEEPER
    Lockard, a first-year from Vienna, Va., collects her third ODAC weekly award of the season after allowing just one goal to help Bridgewater secure a pair of victories including a win in the conference quarterfinals. On Wednesday in the regular season finale, Lockard made three saves in a full shift to help the Eagles wrap up the fourth seed in the ODAC Tournament with a 1-0 win at Randolph-Macon. The two squads met again in the opening round of the league postseason with Bridgewater earning a 5-1 home victory. Lockard guarded the Eagles' goal for the first 81:42 of the contest and turned in seven saves while facing 16 total shots. For the season, Lockard is second in the ODAC in goals against average (.826), third in save percentage (.833), and tied for third in clean sheets (4). She has allowed just 12 goals and made 60 saves in 1,307:51 with the gloves on.

  • McKENNA NEWCOME | SHENANDOAH | ATTACKING MIDFIELDER
    Newcome, a sophomore from Capon Bridge, W.Va., earns her second ODAC weekly award of the season after posting a five-point week to help Shenandoah secure the third seed in the ODAC Tournament and then win a quarterfinal game. On Wednesday in the regular season finale at Averett, Newcome scored the first goal of the game off an assist from Lauren Duffy and later joined Olivia Daniele on assisting Alexandra Sarrach on the Hornets third goal in a 7-1 win over the Cougars. On Saturday in the opening round of the ODAC tournament, Newcome put the Hornets up 1-0 off an assist from Kaitlyn Wahl with 6:00 gone from the first whistle on the way to a 2-1 victory over Roanoke. For the season, Newcome is second in the ODAC in goals scored (13), third in points (34), and tied for fourth in assists (8).

    • Bridgewater midfielder Sophia Phillips scored once and dished out an assist in the Eagles' 5-1 win over Randolph-Macon in the quarterfinals.
    • Guilford midfielder Ainsley Yates assisted on the Quakers' game-winner in a 2-1 win over EMU to close the regular season.
    • Washington and Lee midfielder Sarah Zimmerman scored three times in WLU's 9-0 quarterfinal win over EMU, bringing her to within five points of being the fifth player in program history to reach 100 career points.
