ODAC Golf Report: Fall - Week 8

ODAC golf programs competed in six tournaments in the penultimate week of the fall season with three featuring on either side of the ledger.

MEN'S GOLF - Three Tournaments

  • 76th VSGA Intercollegiate (Results): Four ODAC schools took to the Lake Chesdin Golf Club in Chesterfield for individual play at the annual VSGA event. Lynchburg's Alan Van Asch won the event by eight strokes over Hampden-Sydney's Pierce Lambert and Roanoke's Connor Boughton. Washington and Lee also had golfers in the 40-player field.
  • The Melee (Results): Bridgewater and a “B” squad from Virginia Wesleyan were among the 11-team field on the Blackheath course at Fords Colony Country Club in Williamsburg with the Eagles placing second behind Christopher Newport University. VWU slotted seventh.
  • Battle at Bulle Rock (Results): Roanoke carried the ODAC banner in this event that concluded last week Wednesday. The Maroons finished fourth Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre De Grace, Md.


WOMEN'S GOLF - Three Tournaments

  • Historic Triangle Invitational (Results): Washington and Lee and Lynchburg among 14 squads at the well-attended event played on the River Course at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg. The Generals finished fifth, while the Hornets chimed in 11th.
  • The Melee (Results): Four ODAC schools were among the eight-team field competing on the Blue Heron course at Ford's Colony Country Club. Shenandoah tied for second one stroke back of Drew University, while Averett placed fourth, Bridgewater finished second, and a “B” team from Virginia Wesleyan slotted seventh.
  • Alvernia Invitational at Bulle Rock (Results): Bridgewater competed in this five-team event that finished last week Wednesday. The Eagles placed fifth overall following two rounds of play on the Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre De Grace, Md.
  • LILY ROWE | UNIVERSITY OF LYNCHBURG
    BERKELEY BUNDY | WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
    Rowe, a senior from Raleigh, N.C., and Bundy, a sophomore from Dallas, Texas, were the top ODAC players at the Historic Triangle Invitational, tying for 10th overall out of 79 players competing on the River Course at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg. Rowe and Bundy finished at 6-over par 150 with Waverly Yang from Grinnell College, seven shots back of co-medalists Amanda Zheng from Emory University and Samantha Wang from Carnegie Mellon University following 36 holes of play on the par-72 layout set to 5,639 yards.

    Rowe opened with a 5-over 77 that included a birdie on the par-3 135-yard 13th-hole. She improved by four shots in round two, carding three more birdies on the way to a 1-over 73. Bundy also registered four birdies, two in each round and all coming on different par-4 holes. She posted a 2-over 74 over her first 18 holes and closed with a 4-over 76. Bundy entered the tournament ranked 39th in the first published Division III ratings by Clippd, while Rowe slotted 114th.

    Washington and Lee, the eighth-ranked program by Clippd finished fifth overall at 35-over 611 (310-301). Lynchburg, ranked 41st in Division III, placed 11th at 62-over 638 (318-320). Emory, ranked No. 2 in Clippd's first ratings, won the event at 12-over 588 (299-289).

  • ALAN VAN ASCH | UNIVERSITY OF LYNCHBURG
    Van Asch, a senior from Raleigh, N.C., registered his first career college medal by winning the 76th Annual VSGA Intercollegiate hosted at the Lake Chesdin Golf Club in Chesterfield, Va. Van Asch commanded the leaderboard on the way to a eight-stroke victory over second-place finishers Pierce Lambert from Hampden-Sydney and Connor Boughton from Roanoke following 36-holes of play on the par-72 track set to 6,835 yards. In round one, Van Asch offset one bogey with four birdies on the way to a 3-under 69. His second-round card was a bit more geometric with four more circled birdies and five squared bogeys towards a 1-over 73. Van Asch's opening 69 was the only sub-70 round of the tournament and one of two rounds at par or better.

    There was no team score in this event as it was scored entirely as an individual championship.

    • AVERETT: finished 4th at 108-over 684 (338-346) at The Melee hosted by Premier Collegiate Tournaments
      • Sophia Marshall placed 6th at 20-over 164 (81-83)
    • BRIDGEWATER: competed twice with a 6th place finish at 125-over 701 (348-353) at The Melee hosted by Premier Collegiate Tournaments, and a 5th-placing showing 181-over 757 (378-379) at the Alvernia Invitational at Bulle Rock
      • Hannah Rizzo placed 5th at 16-over 160 (78-82) at The Melee and tied for 2nd at 22-over 166 (84-82) at Bulle Rock
    • SHENANDOAH: tied for 2nd at 96-over 672 (344-328) at The Melee hosted by Premier Collegiate Tournaments
      • Manon Branfaux placed 3rd at 13-over 157 (77-80)
    • SWEET BRIAR: did not record a team score at The Melee hosted by Premier Collegiate Tournaments with 3 Vixens in the field
      • Isabella Peregrine tied for 13th at 27-over 171 (83-88)
    • VIRGINIA WESLEYAN: “B” team finished 7th at 155-over 731 (362-369) at The Melee hosted by Premier Collegiate Tournaments
      • Haley Davis tied for 16th at 29-over 173 (88-85)

      • Walker Gillespie placed 3rd at 1-under 141 (71-70)
    • HAMPDEN-SYDNEY: entered 11 golfers in the all-individual VSGA Intercollegiate Championship
      • Pierce Lambert tied for 2nd at 6-over 150 (77-73)
    • ROANOKE: competed twice, finishing 4th at 49-over 625 (316-309) at the Battle of Bulle Rock, and then entered 5 golfers in the all-individual VSGA Intercollegiate Championship
      • Connor Boughton tied for 2nd at 6-over 150 (77-73) at the VSGA
    • VIRGINIA WESLEYAN: “B” team finished 7th at 44-over 612 (300-312) at The Melee hosted by Premier Collegiate Tournaments
      • Isaac Dyer tied for 22nd at 10-over 152 (74-78)
    • WASHINGTON AND LEE: entered 4 golfers in the all-individual VSGA Intercollegiate Championship
      • Reid Heaton tied for 6th at 9-over 153 (74-79)
