ODAC Golf Report: Fall - Week 5

It was a busy week for ODAC golfers with three tournaments on either side of the ledger. ODAC golfers continue to prove they are among the best in Division III with several top showings both in team tables and player leaderboards including Roanoke's victory at the men's Battle of Bulle Rock.

MEN'S GOLF - One Tournament

  • Battle At Bulle Rock (Results): Roanoke represented the ODAC in the best way possible as the Maroons won the Battle of Bulle Rock hosted by Alvernia University at Bulle Rock Golf Club in Havre de Grace, Md. Roanoke finished at 36-over 612 (305-307) to win by five strokes over the host Golden Wolves atop the 11-team (10 school) table. Andrew Garcia was the Maroons' top finisher in a tie for second at 6-over 150 (75-75) following 36 holes of play.
  • Blue Streak Invitational (Results): Bridgewater was among the 13-team field at the Blue Streak Invitational hosted by John Carroll University at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. The Eagles finished 12th overall. Jayden Hendricks was BC's top-finisher in 34th at 16-over 232 (80-77-75) following 54 holes of play.
  • West Pines Collegiate (Results): A deep and well-attended field of 23 teams (21 schools) took part in the West Pines Collegiate hosted by Oglethorpe University at West Pines Golf Club in Douglasville, Ga. Averett (21st), Hampden-Sydney (3rd), Randolph-Macon (T-12th), and Shenandoah (2nd) with the Hornets coming in 12 shots behind the host Stormy Petrels to finish as the runner-up and four strokes clear of the third-place Tigers. H-SC's Matthew Teegardin (71-66-72) and SU's Braden Hermansky (68-70-71) tied for fifth at 4-under 209, five shots behind the individual medalist after 54 holes of competition.


WOMEN'S GOLF - Two Events

  • Battle at Bulle Rock (Results): Roanoke was the lone ODAC school in action at the Battle of Bulle Rock hosted by Alvernia University at Bulle Rock Golf Club in Havre de Grace, Md. The Maroons placed sixth in the 9-team field. Allyson Childs was the top RC player in a tie for 20th at 43-over 187 (99-88) following 36 holes of competition.
  • Chimney Oaks Women's Invitational (Results): Batten and Lynchburg were among the six teams in competition at the Chimney Oaks Women's Invitational hosted by Piedmont University at Chimney Oaks Golf Club in Homer, Ga. The Marlins finished third, while the Hornets posted a sixth-place showing. Lynchburg's Grace Saunders was the top ODAC player, placing second at 5-over 221 (73-73-75), just two behind the medalists following 54 holes of play. BATN's Juliette Coffey placed third at 10-over 226 (75-75-76).
  • JCU Fall Invite (Results): Shenandoah carried the ODAC banner at the JCU Fall Invitational hosted by John Carroll University at Manakiki Golf Course in Willoughby Hills, Ohio. The Hornets finished seventh in the 9-team (7 school) field. Gaby Frick was SU's top player, finishing ninth at 24-over 168 (83-85) over 36 holes of play.
  • GRACE SAUNDERS | UNIVERSITY OF LYNCHBURG
    Saunders, a junior from Springfield, Va., turned in a runner-up showing at the Chimney Oaks Women's Invitational hosted by Piedmont University at Chimney Oaks Golf Club in Homer, Ga. Saunders finished at 5-over par 221 following 54 holes of play on the par 72 layout set to 5,641 yards. Three was the magic number for Saunders as she carded a trio of birdies in each of her three rounds. On day one, she registered a pair of 1-over rounds of 73 to leave her at 2-over and in second place after 36 holes. She closed with a 3-over 75, maintaining her runner-up spot by two strokes to medalist Yvette Gordon from Huntingdon College. Saunders was top-five in the tournament in most statistical categories including birdies (2nd - 9), par-5 scoring (T2nd - 4.83), par-3 scoring (T4th - 3.25), and par-4 scoring (T4th - 4.13).

    Lynchburg finished sixth overall in the team table at 152-over 1,016 (330-338-348).

  • MATTHEW TEEGARDIN | HAMPDEN-SYDNEY COLLEGE
    Teegardin, a sophomore from Charleston, S.C., tied for fifth overall in a deep 128-player field at the West Pines Collegiate hosted by Oglethorpe University at West Pines Golf Club in Douglasville, Ga. Teegardin, who was joined in fifth place by fellow ODAC competitor Braden Hermansky from Shenandoah, finished at 4-under par 209 following 54 holes of play on the par 71 layout set to 6,801 yards over the first 36 holes and 6,832 yards for round three. On day one, Teegardin carded just four holes of bogey or worse. He registered three birdies towards an even-par 71 opening round and then exploded for seven birdies towards a 5-under 66. His 18-hole and 36-hole (137) totals were personal collegiate bests along with his final 54-hole score of 209 following 1-over 72 that included three birdies on day two. Teegardin's 13 birdies were tied for fourth-most in the field, while his 1-under 3.96 average was tied for sixth in par-4 scoring.

    Hampden-Sydney finished third overall in its best showing of the season at xxx-over 851 (285-278-288). That 54-hole total was the program's best since the 2022 ODAC Men's Golf Championships. The Tigers 18-hole (278) and 36-hole (563) totals were their best since 2022 (274) and 2019 (559), respectively.

  • BRADEN HERMANSKY | SHENANDOAH UNIVERSITY
    Hermansky, a sophomore from Poquoson, Va., tied for fifth overall in a deep 128-player field at the West Pines Collegiate hosted by Oglethorpe University at West Pines Golf Club in Douglasville, Ga. Hermansky, who was joined in fifth place by fellow ODAC competitor Matthew Teegardin from Hampden-Sydney, finished at 4-under par 209 following 54 holes of play on the par 71 layout set to 6,801 yards over the first 36 holes and 6,832 yards for round three. On day one, Hermansky offset four bogeys with eight birdies – four in each round – on the way to posting a 3-under 68 over his first 18 holes and a 1-under 70 in round two. On the second day, Hermansky netted three more birdies in his closing even-par 71. His opening 68 tied for his second-lowest round of the season. Hermansky tied for fifth in par-5 scoring (-5, 4.58), while his 11 birdies tied for 12th.

    Shenandoah finished as the runner-up to host Oglethorpe by 12 strokes at 5-under 847 (281-283-283). The Hornets' 281 in round one marks their lowest of the season, while their 283 second and third round marks tie with two other rounds of 283 for their second lowest this season. SU has not placed inside the top-four in all three starts by the Hornets' “A” team this season.
