ODAC Wrestling Report: Week 5

ODAC wrestling programs returned to action at one of three invitationals. Averett, Greensboro, and Shenandoah traveled north to Messiah University to compete in the Petrofes Invitational. No. 22 Washington and Lee was among a strong field at the New Standard Invitational hosted by York College (Pa.). Randolph was the lone ODAC outfit to compete at the Ohio Northern Invitational.

  • CARTER STACK | WASHINGTON AND LEE | 285 LBS
    Stack, a sophomore from Oakwood, Ohio, won the 285-pound weight class at the New Standard Invitational hosted by York (Pa.) College. Stack went 5-0 on the way to topping the podium. He began with a win by fall after 1:10 over Nicholai Brotzman from Penn College, the fifth-ranked wrestler in Region 2. Stack then dominated Austin DeBolt from Alfred University, posting a win by technical fall (15-0) after 2:22 on the mat. Stack controlled the pace of his quarterfinal bout, cruising to a 13-6 decision over Brayden Soleau from Johnson & Wales University. Stack's final two victories were by the narrowest of margins. In the semifinals, he churned out a 2-1 decision over Charlie Turner from Ithaca College. He then met Mo Abdelatty from Ursinus College. Stack won bout #500 via a 7-6 decision to claim the hard-won title. 

    Washington and Lee, ranked 22nd by the NWCA in their latest ratings (11/1) release, placed second overall among 16 competing teams with 125.5 points. The Generals trailed only No. 8 North Central College for the program's all-time best showing at the NSI.

  • LIAM FLANAGAN | WASHINGTON AND LEE | 157 LBS
    Flanagan, a sophomore from Harrisburg, Pa., collects his second ODAC weekly honor of the season after returning to his home state to win the 157-pound title at the New Standard Invitational hosted by York (Pa.) College. Flanagan opened with a trio of dominating efforts. His run began with a win by major decision (17-3) over Mark Lattimore from Johnson & Wales University. He then pinned Brayden Castillo from Eastern University after 2:16 on the mat. Flanagan won his quarterfinal bout over Aklo Sanders from Ithaca College via technical fall (17-2) at 4:59. In the semifinals, Flanagan ground out a 4-2 decision over teammate Noah Danforth. That set up a title bout with Braden Kmak from Ursinus College. Flanagan registered his second win by fall of the event, stopping the fifth-ranked wrestler in Region 3 at 3:58.

    • Anakin Burks, SU (125#): went 3-2 on the way to a 4th place finish at the Petrofes Invitational
    • Cannon Long, SU (165#): went 6-2 with 4 wins by fall on the way to finishing 5th at the Petrofes Invitational
