SALEM, Va.. — For the first time since 2020, we have two different ODAC indoor track & field team champions. Washington and Lee University collected the program's second overall women's trophy and the University of Lynchburg earned its fourth straight and 32nd overall men's championship following two days of competition in Salem at the Cregger Center on Roanoke College's campus.
WLU's women's team waited 16 years to add another piece of hardware next to its 2009 indoor trophy. The Generals garnered 195.75 points to out-pace second place Bridgewater College (128.0) and third place Lynchburg (116.0). The Hornets dominated the men's competition, posting 213.0 points to best WLU (91.0) by 122 markers. The Eagles finished third (78.0).
Records were set in eight events split evenly between the men's and women's ranks. On three occasions in the men's 200-meter dash and the women's mile and 3K runs, the top-two finishers eclipsed the previous championship record. Overall conference marks were reset or tied twice. Lynchburg's Tristan Wright matched the 60-meter dash mark of 0:06.76 set by former Guilford College standout Johnathan Smith in 2012. Fellow Hornet Kacey Kelly snapped the triple jump record of 11.95 meters set by former Lynchburg All-American Aniya Seward in 2023 with a leap of 12.12 meters. Kelly's new mark is just 0.01 off her personal-best in the event, which serves as the ODAC's outdoor overall record.
The ODAC's coaches will determine the special award winners from this weekend's meet during a voting process this week. However, the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athletes were announced on Sunday evening. Bridgewater junior jumper and hurdler Olivia Bates and Lynchburg senior distance runner Cooper Hurst received recognition from the ODAC's athletic communications personnel.
In the sections below, we highlight the full team standings, note any records achieved, and identify each of the event winners.
