All-ODAC Women's Tennis Awards Announced

WLU's Long and Ness Honored for Third Straight Season

FOREST, Va. --- Washington and Lee University women's tennis, winners of 21 straight conference championships, saw two more streaks extended on Tuesday with the announcement of the 2024-25 All-ODAC Women's Tennis Awards.

Generals junior Lauren Long collected her third straight ODAC Player of the Year award. She also received ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year distinction from the league's athletic communications personnel. WLU head coach Erin Ness garnered her fourth straight ODAC Coach of the Year plaque from her peers. Averett University first-year Ravaka Ramanantoanina received ODAC Rookie of the Year laurels.

In another developing trend for ODAC women's tennis, the final awards lists feature predominantly athletes who did not receive All-ODAC honors last year. Just six total singles players earned repeat all-league status, while one full doubles team and one-half of a second gathered plaudits for a second straight season.

Both WLU's Long and Randolph College sophomore Lena Kirsten repeat as All-ODAC First Team honorees at #1 singles. The Generals Meagan Donovan is a first team at #6 singles for a second time. Averett's Siddhi Khandelwal was a first team choice at #2 singles in 2024 and appears on the 2025 chart on the All-ODAC Second Team at the same ladder position. Sweet Briar College junior Alex Guilarte is a second team pick at #3 singles for a second straight campaign, while her Vixens' sophomore teammate Isadora Lima is on the second team for a second time, but this earned her 2025 honor at #4 singles compared to her recognition at #6 singles in 2024.

In the doubles ranks, SBC's Guilarte and senior Ana Patino earned first team honors at #1 doubles last season. This year, they appear on the second team. AU's Brenda Poulakidas partnered with Ramanantoanina this year to earn a second team spot at #2 doubles. Last year, Poulakidas and teammate Jennika Jaison were second team honorees at the same position.

Long, a junior from Carmel, Ind., boasts five major ODAC honors on her resumé in just short of three seasons. She adds this year's player and scholar-athlete awards to two other POY accolades and the ODAC Rookie of the Year award in 2023. Long went 5-0 in ODAC play, all at #1 singles. In doubles, she went 3-1 in league matches with two partners, each time playing at the #1 position. Overall, the 12th-ranked player in Division III and third-rated athlete in the Atlantic South Region is 16-2 in all singles matches, going 13-2 from the top ladder position. She is 11-5 in doubles including 11-4 with Grace Lorenz and 1-1 with Riho Iijima. Long is set to make her straight appearance in the Division III Women's Tennis Singles Championship, which begins play on Saturday. She earned All-American honors the previous two seasons.

In the classroom, Long maintains a 3.78 grade point average as a biochemistry major with a minor in entrepreneurship. She is a six-time W&L Scholar-Athlete as well as two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and two-time honoree on the ODAC All-Academic Team. Long, who posted a pair of 4.0 terms this season, was a 2023-24 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District pick. Last summer, she worked as a NSF-REU student at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and helped develop quicker, cheaper, and more efficient ways to scan people's blood for drugs. Long also serves as a teaching assistant for the organic chemistry lab, volunteers with Campus Kitchen, and has conducted on-campus research. Long took part in the entrepreneurship summit conducted by Washington and Lee that focused on designing a mental health app for student athletes. Long will be studying for the MCAT this summer.

Ness is in her 13th year guiding the Generals women's tennis program. This is her ninth overall and fourth straight ODAC top coaching award, grouping it with recognition she received from the league's coaches in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Washington and Lee close the season ranked 39th in Division III and seventh in the Atlantic South. Washington and Lee, which has not lost an ODAC match since the league moved to a team-based format in 2006-07, claimed its 22nd straight and 34th overall ODAC title earlier this month.

Ramanantoanina, a first-year from Antananarivo, Madagascar, pairs her ODAC top rookie honor with All-ODAC Second Team selections at #1 singles and #2 doubles. Ramanantoanina went 11-7 in all singles matches including 6-5 at #1 and 3-1 at #2. She was 6-1 against ODAC competition. In doubles action, Ramanantoanina partnered with four different players, going 15-5 overall. She and Brenda Poulakidas were 13-2 overall and 7-0 in league play, leading to their second team recognition at #2 doubles.
