WLU Completes 20th Straight Unbeaten ODAC Regular Season

FOREST, Va. --- ODAC regular season champion Washington and Lee University completed its 20th straight unbeaten conference regular season to enter the upcoming ODAC Women's Tennis Tournament as the top seed in the eight-team bracket.

The Generals (17-2 overall, 9-0 ODAC), currently ranked 14th in Division III by the ITA, will not only host one of four quarterfinal matchups on Wednesday, but the Lexington-based school will welcome the four quarterfinal winners to campus for the semifinal and championship matches next weekend.

Three ties dotted the final ODAC table and impacted three sets of seeds. All were settled by head-to-head results, the conference's first step in its tiebreaking protocol. Tiebreakers were needed to determine the second and third seeds after Averett University (13-3) and Virginia Wesleyan University (9-10) tied at 8-1 in league play. The Cougars defeated the Marlins, 4-3, on March 14 to break the tie and earn the second seed. VWU will play as the third seed.

The University of Lynchburg (10-5, 6-3) earned the fourth seed outright, but figuring out who would travel to the Hill City in the quarterfinals needed tiebreakers. Guilford College (10-6) and Randolph-Macon College (9-7) locked at 5-4 in ODAC matches. The Quakers defeated the Yellow Jackets, 6-1, at the end of March to secure the higher billing and an opening date at Lynchburg. RMC will play as the sixth seed and head to VWU in the quarterfinals.

The league's second-set of Hornets also earned their tournament spot with a clean standings position. Shenandoah University (7-10, 4-5) travels south to Averett in the quarterfinals as the seventh seed.

The final position needed tiebreakers to cap the eight-team bracket. Randolph College (9-7) and Roanoke College (7-11) tied at 3-6 in league matches. The WildCats 6-1 win over the Maroons on March 23 tipped the scales in their favor for the eighth position. Randolph will take a trip north to WLU in the quarterfinals.
