All-ODAC Men's Lacrosse Awards Announced

Three Schools Share Special Individual Honors

FOREST, Va. --- The University of Lynchburg garnered 11 all-conference honors while fellow Division III tournament qualifier and league champion Washington and Lee University was joined by Hampden-Sydney College in collecting 10 end-of-season accolades to highlight the 2025 All-ODAC Men's Lacrosse Awards.

Three schools shared special individual honors. Randolph-Macon College defenseman Mike Allen earned ODAC Defensive Player of the Year laurels, while H-SC attack Cole Palmer secured ODAC Rookie of the Year plaudits. The remaining three plaques belong to Washington and Lee with face-off specialist Tyler Spano receiving ODAC Offensive Player of the Year recognition, mentor Gene McCabe garnering ODAC Coach of the Year distinction, and attack Hillis Burns achieving ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year status.

The ODAC's coaches recognized 50 stars as all-conference performers. Of that group, 22 appear on an All-ODAC list for at least the second straight season, including 14 members of this year's first team.

Roanoke's Kammerman brothers -- Julian (M) and Luke (A) are two of nine repeat first teamers that also includes Maroons teammate Weston Hammond (D). RMC's Allen and Lynchburg's Jake Rust (M) can be added to that list along with WLU's trio of Spano, Jack Elliott (M), and Elliot Cohen (SSSP).

Randolph-Macon's Avery Tankersley (A), Roanoke's Wyatt Whitlow (A), and Washington and Lee's Chris Datz (D) each move up from the 2024 second team. RMC's Brodie Kent (D) makes the leap from last year's third team.

Allen, a junior from Williamsburg, Va., is now a three-time All-ODAC honoree with 2025 marking his second straight first team appointment. The 2024 second team All-American backed up that campaign with a second impressive season that featured 32 caused turnovers and 69 ground balls as an equally adept on-ball defender as well as passing lane disruptor. Allen is a key piece of the Yellow Jackets transition game, getting forward to match his career-high of 15 points with a new personal-best nine goals scored to go with six assists. In the first game of the season, Allen set a new single-game career mark with six caused turnovers in a tight 7-4 non-conference win over the University of Mary Washington.

Spano, a sophomore from Charlottesville, Va., pairs this honor with the ODAC's top-rookie award last season. He is currently sixth in the country in face-off winning percentage .719. His 266 wins (in 370 attempts) is tied for sixth in Division III. Spano, a preseason All-American by the USILA, Inside Lacrosse, and USA Lacrosse Magazine, never dropped below 50-percent in face-offs won in any game this season and posted 11 games with a better than 70-percent winning clip. Spano is seventh in Division III with 181 ground balls and 12th at 10.06 per game. In addition to his possession-game prowess, Spano has gotten forward to score four goals and dish out four assists.

McCabe is in his 19th season guiding the Generals men's lacrosse program and his 24th year as a Division III head coach. This is his fourth ODAC top-coaching award, joining the recognition he received in 2009, 2019, and 2023. Washington and Lee is currently awaiting three teams' arrival in Lexington for early round play of the Division III tournament after securing its position by winning its 12th ODAC title. McCabe has been on the sidelines for five of those trophies. He currently boasts career win-loss records of 236-108 (.686) at WLU and 290-126 (.697) overall.

Palmer, a first-year from Atlanta, Ga., pairs this award with an appointment to the All-ODAC Second Team by the league's head coaches. Palmer, an imposing figure on attack at 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, was key to Hampden-Sydney's attack from the start as he registered 12 points (10 goals) over his first three games. He finished the season with 53 total points on 39 goals and 14 assists, each top-three at H-SC. Palmer impacted the scoreboard in all but three games played, registering two or more points in each of those 15 outings. Six times he posted five points in a game, accounting for his season (and career) high.

Burns, a senior from Louisville, Ky., stars both on and off the field for Washington and Lee. In the classroom, Burns maintains a 3.885 grade point average as a mathematics and business double major. The six-time W&L Scholar-Athlete and three-time All-ODAC Academic Team honoree twice received the LK Johnson Rosasco Scholarship reserved for business and accounting students at WLU. Burns has held three internships overall with Access Holdings Management Company (two) and Brown-Forman Corporation. Upon graduation he will be working as an investment banking analyst at Houlihan Lokey in Washington, D.C.

On the field, the now three-time All-ODAC honoree came into the season as a preseason All-America selection by the USILA, Inside Lacrosse, and USA Lacrosse Magazine. He lived up to that billing by posting 65 points on 37 goals and 28 assists, leading nationally seventh-ranked WLU in the latter category and tying for team-high honors in points. Entering the NCAA Tournament, Burns ranks third in Generals program history with 241 points on 148 goals and 93 assists.
