Shenandoah Names Reeves as Wrestling Head Coach

WINCHESTER, Va. --- Following a national search, Shenandoah University Assistant Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics DeShon Foxx announced Monday that Alex Reeves has been named the second head coach in the history of the Shenandoah wrestling program.

Reeves joined the Hornets' coaching staff at the start of the 2023–24 season as an assistant coach before stepping into the interim head coach role during the final month of the season.

"We're thrilled to remove the interim tag and formally name Alex Reeves our head wrestling coach," Foxx said. "Alex brings energy, integrity, and a clear vision for what this program can become. The growth of our student-athletes under his leadership has been evident, and we're confident he will continue building a championship culture at Shenandoah."

During his tenure as interim head coach, Reeves helped guide Dylan Weaver and Hunter Ballantine to NWCA Scholar All-American honors in recognition of their academic and athletic achievements.

"I want to thank Shenandoah University, the athletic department, and everyone who has supported me since I arrived in October," Reeves said. "I'm incredibly honored to be part of something so special. Shenandoah is more than just a beautiful campus. It's a place filled with passion, potential, and the resources to build champions on and off the mat. The foundation is here. The support is here. Now it's time to wake up this sleeping giant and show the world what Shenandoah Wrestling is all about."

Prior to Shenandoah, Reeves served as the head coach at Rowan College of South Jersey, where he developed and implemented a comprehensive vision for the wrestling program with a focus on both competitive success and student-athlete development. He conducted training sessions that emphasized skill development, strategy, and physical conditioning while also providing individualized mentorship to student-athletes. He identified, evaluated, and recruited prospective student-athletes who aligned with the institution's academic and athletic standards and built strong relationships with high school coaches and wrestling clubs. Reeves also oversaw scheduling, travel, and budget management, and prepared athletes for competition with strategic guidance during events. He collaborated closely with athletic department and university staff to promote a culture of respect, inclusivity, and academic success. In addition, he ensured compliance with NJCAA rules and university policies and led community engagement through clinics, camps, and outreach efforts.

Reeves wrestled collegiately at Centenary College (now Centenary University) in New Jersey.

He assumes his new role immediately.
