ODAC Men's Tennis Report: Report 2

Both Averett and Guilford were in action at the Methodist Invitational over the weekend. Competition featured seven flights over open singles competition and four flights of open doubles play. For results of the event, click HERE.

  • ANDRES MERCEDES | GUILFORD COLLEGE
    Mercedes, a senior from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republican, won the Flight #1 at the Methodist Invitational hosted by Methodist University over the weekend. Mercedes competed three times, beginning with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph over fellow ODAC foe Satwik Kollepalli from Averett University. In the semifinals, Mercedes met Kristoffer Dalbak from the University of Mount Olive. Mercedes recovered from a 6-3 setback in the first set to win second two, 7-6 (7-3), and a subsequent super-set, 10-3, to move on to the finals Matthew Hurley from the host Monarchs. Mercedes again dropped the first set, 6-4, but again recovered for a 6-3 win in set two and a 10-5 super-set triumph to claim the flight championship.

  • SATWIK KOLLEPALLI and ALEX RUDY | AVERETT UNIVERSITY
    Kollepalli, a sophomore from Kakinada, India, and Rudy, a junior from Minsk, Belarus, went 2-1 at the Methodist Invitational hosted by Methodist University, finishing as runners-up in Flight 2 of the doubles competition. They opened with Fredrik Foss and Filip Forsberg from Barton College and scored a 6-1 victory. In the semifinals, Kollepalli and Rudy earned a 6-3 win over fellow ODAC foes Andres Mercedes and Emmanuel Oye from Guilford. The Cougars' duo squared off with Joao Matias Sonaglia Guzman and Kristoffer Dalbak from the University of Mount Olive in the final. The UMO pair posted a 6-4 win to claim the flight title.

    • Averett's Lucas Fiandra won flight three at the Methodist Invitational with wins over Barton's Diego Rodriguez (6-3, 6-2), Mount Olive's Luke Oosthuizen (6-2, 6-4), and Belmont Abbey's Aaron Zoubek (6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 10-7).
