Generals Earn Max Points in ODAC Women's Tennis Poll

Washington and Lee Unanimous Pick to Lift its Record 35th Conference Trophy

FOREST, Va. --- Few programs in the ODAC have been as dominant as Washington and Lee University women's tennis with the Generals owning a league-record 34 championships including each of the past 22. The Generals are favored to add to their tally in 2026 as they lead the annual ODAC Women's Tennis Coaches Poll.

WLU collected a maximum 121 points, having received all 11 first place votes it could. Averett University also was a unanimous selection, picking up the remaining top nod and sweeping 10 second place votes towards 111 markers. Virginia Wesleyan University rounds out the top-three with 98 tallies.

In the sections below, we look back at the 2025 postseason as well as some results from the fall campaign to preview the upcoming slate towards the 2026 spring season and championship.

    • Washington and Lee went 10-0 during the ODAC regular season and 18-6 overall, finishing the year as the 37th-ranked team in Division III.
    • The Generals commanded the top-seed in the ODAC Tournament followed (in order) by Averett, Sweet Briar, Virginia Wesleyan, Shenandoah, Randolph, Guilford, and Randolph-Macon

    • Washington and Lee lifted its 34th overall and 21st straight ODAC trophy on its home soil.
    • The Generals also served as hosts for the semifinal and championship matches.
    • TEAM TOURNAMENT
      • ODAC champion Washington and Lee was selected to host an early round 6-team pod to open the NCAA Team Tournament.

        • Second Round: WLU def. Swarthmore, 4-3
        • Third Round: Emory def. WLU, 4-0
    • SINGLES/DOUBLES TOURNAMENT
      • Washington and Lee's Lauren Long qualified for the Division III singles championship, but was forced to withdraw due to injury before play began.
      • Long later collected her third straight ITA All-American award after finishing as the 18th-ranked singles player in the country.
    • ECAC Championship
      • Sweet Briar competed in the ECAC Championships following the ODAC Tournament.
      • The Vixens captured their first ECAC title with a 4-1 win over Baruch College, the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
      • Lucia Bovard was named MVP of the championship after winning her singles match and joining Julianna Caracciolo in claiming their doubles match.
    • Dual Matches
      • Eight ODAC schools competed in traditional dual matches, albeit with a new scoring format for a second season where the full-play team score is now at seven-points – 1 point for each singles match won and 1 point for winning a majority (or all three) of the doubles matches.
      • Washington and Lee enters the spring at 2-0, while Randolph-Macon is 2-1.
      • Guilford and Randolph also picked up their first wins of the year in early non-conference action.
    • ITA Southeast Regional Championships – ODAC Results
      • Singles Highlights - Championship Draw
        • Championship Draw: three Generals – Sarah Donnelly, Grace Lorenz, and Annie Jennings – won their first matches to reach the Round of 32 before bowing out of the tournament.
        • B1 Draw: WLU's Mary Kate Kahl won twice to reach the semifinals before falling to Anika Joshi from Carnegie Mellon in the semifinals.
        • B3 Draw: Lynchburg's Ashley Hair and Maggie Wonderling won their opening matches before both ending their runs in the quarterfinals.
      • Doubles Highlights - Championship Draw
        • Championship Draw: WLU's Sarah Donnelly and Grace Lorenz won matches in the Round of 32 and Round of 16 before bowing out to a duo from Johns Hopkins University in the quarterfinals.
        • B1 Draw: the ODAC's best showing featured Lynchburg tandem Kayla Kosiorek and Isadora Lima with the Hornets' pair winning twice before falling to a squad from Salisbury University.
  • The ITA posted Division III singles and doubles rankings on November 12, while the team national rankings were published on January 14 in prelude to the spring season.

      • Washington and Lee opens the spring season as the 19th-ranked team in Division III, the ODAC only school in the ITA's 40-team table.
      • No ODAC singles players or doubles teams are currently ranked by the ITA.
      • Washington and Lee's Sarah Donnelly is currently ranked 20th in the ITA's Atlantic South Region singles rankings.
  • ODAC women's tennis fans have plenty of returning stars to support this spring with 10-of-18 singles players and 8-of-14 doubles standouts back from the 2025 All-ODAC Awards lists. That doubles contingent includes two full tandems and one-half of four other duos.

    Reigning ODAC Coach of the Year Erin Ness features a deep Generals' squad that includes 4-of-5 all-conference singles players buoyed by three-time ODAC Player of the Year Lauren Long. The senior All-American also earned the 2025 ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for women's tennis.

    • By the end of the season, ODAC teams will have competed in nine conference matches.
    • League squads will also continue a robust non-conference slate as scheduled by the schools.
    • The first spring matches begin the weekend of February 13-15, a stretch that also includes the first ODAC contests of the year.
    • The ODAC Tournament is a standard eight-team bracket with competition covering three rounds. Washington and Lee will serve as host of both the women's and men's final fours.
      • Quarterfinals: Wednesday, April 29 at #1-4 Seeds
      • Semifinals: Saturday, May 2 at Washington and Lee (1:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. ET)
      • Championship: Sunday, May 3 at Washington and Lee (1:00 p.m. ET)
    • Selections for the NCAA Division III Championship will be announced on Monday, May 4 on ncaa.com.
