ODAC Softball Report: Week 4

Non-conference teams have not had a lot of fun playing ODAC squads through the first four weeks of the season. Eight of the league's 11 programs feature .500 or better winning percentages with a combined 88-61-1 (.590) record. Nationally top-ranked Virginia Wesleyan (14-0) has yet to lose with six more wins coming over the past week. The Marlins have outscored their opponents, 128-14, so far this season. Averett and Bridgewater are both 12-4, while Shenandoah (11-3) and No. 24 Randolph-Macon (10-6) have also reached double figures.

  • MEGHAN GASKINS | SHENANDOAH
Gaskins, a junior from Chesapeake, Va., posted a 3-0 record that included a seven-inning no-hitter of Wheaton College (Ill.) to help Shenandoah post a 5-1 week overall. On Monday, Gaskins carried a perfect game into the seventh inning before surrendering a walk to lead-off the bottom of the frame. She walked one more batter that inning before finishing off the 4-0 win over the Thunder. She faced just two batters over the minimum with those two walks the only baserunners allowed against seven strikeouts. On Wednesday, Gaskins worked all five innings on the way to a 16-0 shortened shutout of Emerson College. She scattered five hits and walked a batter to go with five punchouts. Gaskins then picked up the win in relief in an 8-7 victory over Baldwin Wallace University. She worked the last two innings, giving up one run on three hits without a walk and three strikeouts. For the season, Gaskins is 4-0 in five appearances covering 21.0 innings. She has walked six and fanned 19 while holding opponents to a .171 batting average.
