ODAC Women's Tennis Report: Report 13

  • LAUREN LONG / GRACE LORENZ | WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
    Long, a senior from Carmel, Ind., and Lorenz, a senior from Oklahoma City, Okla., did not give themselves much margin for error in their first action together as a unit this spring. The Generals' duo competed at No. 1 doubles to help nationally 15th-ranked Washington and Lee to a pair of team wins over top-40 ranked programs as part of the Generals' 2-1 week overall. In a 7-0 team loss to No. 5 Emory, Long and Lorenz turned in a 6-4 triumph over Emily Kantrovitz and Iris Berman. The Eagles' pair is ranked second in the Atlantic South Region and third in Division III by the ITA. In a 5-2 team victory over No. 37 Colby, Long and Lorenz posted a 6-3 win over Michaela Landry and Isabella Suk.

    Long, a senior from Carmel, Ind., squared off against No. 1 singles players from three nationally-ranked top-40 squads to help No. 15 Washington and Lee to a 2-1 team showing. In a 7-0 team triumph over No. 32 Whitman, Long earned a 6-2, 6-2 straight sets win over Nana Vang, the 11th-ranked singles player in Division III and fourth-ranked in the West Region by the ITA. In a 7-0 team loss to No. 5 Emory, Long lost for just the second time this spring, falling to Emily Kantrovitz, 3-6, 3-6. Kantrovitz is rated 14th nationally and fourth in the Atlantic South Region. Long improved to 7-2 in all singles matches with a 6-1, 7-6 (6-0) win over Jade Finestone to help the Generals topple No. 37 Colby, 5-2.
