ODAC Golf Report: Spring - Week 7

The final weekly report of the ODAC golf season is here! Championship play kicks off for the men on Sunday with the women's championship slated for the following weekend. Details for both events can be found below.

MEN'S GOLF - Three Tournaments

  • Sam Snead Collegiate (Results): Piedmont University played host to this 21-team event at former ODAC Championship site Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg. The field included 15 of the top-48 squads in Division III including seven inside the top-25. No. 17 Lynchburg led the ODAC's contingent in fifth place. Averett (7th), Randolph-Macon (8th), No. 45 Hampden-Sydney (10th), No. 36 Guilford (13th), and No. 48 Shenandoah (14th) also closed their regular seasons in Williamsburg. Guilford's Braeden Gillen was the top-finishing ODAC player in the 54-hole event in a tie for 10th in a strong 108-player field.
  • Camp LeJeune Intercollegiate (Results): The annual event in Camp LeJeune, N.C., was competed for the 53rd time with Oglethorpe University hosting at Paradise Point Golf Club. The field included 22 teams including seven ranked from 10th to 50th in Division III. No. 23 Bridgewater led the ODAC's contingent with a runner-up showing. Averett (7th), Roanoke (9th), and Virginia Wesleyan (T-13th) closed their campaigns in North Carolina. The Eagles Brandon Washburn was the top-finishing ODAC player in the 54-hole outing in a tie for third place in a solid field of 110 players.
  • Cardinal Spring Classic (Results): Catholic University hosted its annual spring event at Black Rock Golf Course in Hagerstown, Md. Shenandoah entered a “B” team into the event and finished first by six strokes over Marymount University (Va.). Connor Christie topped the individual leaderboard following 36 holes of play to close the regular season.


WOMEN'S GOLF - Two Tournaments

  • Camp LeJeune Women's Intercollegiate (Results): The fourth annual event in Camp LeJeune, N.C., was hosted by Oglethorpe University at Paradise Point Golf Club. The field included 11 teams with two ranked squads – No. 31 Oglethorpe and No. 50 Virginia Wesleyan. The Marlins finished as the runner-up with Shenandoah finishing fourth, Bridgewater placing seventh, Roanoke chiming in ninth, and Averett finishing 11th. VWU's Juliette Coffey finished second after 54-holes of play in a field of 59 players.
  • VSGA Women's Intercollegiate Championship (Results): No. 34 Lynchburg played host to the annual VSGA championship at London Downs Golf Club in Forest, Va. The Hornets were joined by ranked teams No. 29 Christopher Newport University and Southern Virginia University as well as Sweet Briar in the four-team outing. Lynchburg finished second, while the Vixens placed fourth. Lynchburg's Lily Rowe won the event after 36 holes in the 26-player field.
  • LILY ROWE | UNIVERSITY OF LYNCHBURG
    Lowe, a senior from Raleigh, N.C., registered her first collegiate medal at the VSGA Women's Intercollegiate Championship hosted by Lynchburg at London Downs Golf Club in Forest, Va. Rowe topped a field of 26 players that included three ranked programs at 12-over par 156 following 36 holes of play on par-72 track set to 5,650 yards. Rowe opened the tournament at 7-over 79 that included one birdie. She notched 13 pars in round two on the way to a 5-over 77. Both scores tied for lowest total of those rounds. Rowe closes the regular season with a 76.4 adjusted scoring average over 20 rounds of play. She is currently ranked 109th in Division III by Clippd.

    Lynchburg, ranked 36th in the country, finished as the runner-up, 26 strokes behind No. 28 Christopher Newport University. The Hornets 81-over total included rounds of 327 and 330.

  • BRAEDEN GILLEN | GUILFORD COLLEGE
    Gillen, a sophomore from Holly Springs, N.C., was the top ODAC finisher in a deep 108-player field at the Sam Snead Collegiate hosted by Piedmont University at former ODAC championship venue Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va. Gillen tied for 10th overall at 5-over par 218 following 54 holes of play on the par-71 layout set to 6,878 yards. Gillen opened with a 2-over 73 that featured four birdies. In round two, he notched one of the rarest shots in golf with a double-eagle (albatross) on the par-5 485-yard sixth hole. He added two birdies to his round on the way to a 3-under 68. Gillen closed with a 6-over 77 that included a pair of birdies. Gillen's effort improved his Division III ranking by Clippd from 299th to 225th. He closes the regular season with a 74.0 adjusted scoring average over 22 rounds of play.

    Guilford, ranked 39th in the country, placed 13th in the 21-team field at 48-over 900 (304-295-301).
