JONATHAN McEWEN | WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
McEwen, a senior from Portsmouth, Va., kicked off his season with a top-20 finish at the NCAA Division III Fall Preview hosted by Christopher Newport University at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, site of both the Division III men's and women's national championships in the spring. McEwen tied for 18th overall in the strong 90-player field with Kevin Mu from Emory University, Joshua Wang from Carnegie Mellon University, and Pablo Castro from Illinois Wesleyan University at 2-under 211 following 54 holes of competition on the par-72 River Course set to 6,667 yards for the first two rounds and 6,732 for the final 18 holes. McEwen had a stellar first day, joining three other players as the 36-hole leader at 8-under par. The two-time Jack Nicklaus Award winner as the top player in Division III opened his 2026-27 campaign with a clean 5-under 66 powered by five birdies. He sunk six birdies in round two, posting a 3-under 68. Weather impacted play for everyone on the second day, which played a part in McEwen's 6-over 77 that included two birdies. McEwen, who carded 13 birdies for the event, was third in the field in par-3 scoring (-1, 2.92).
Washington and Lee finished 10th overall in a stacked field of 18 teams at 14-over 866 (290-287-289). Huntingdon College topped the leaderboard at 18-under 834.
