ODAC Men's Soccer Report: Week 4

ODAC teams went 6-3-6 win weather forcing the cancellation of two additional games. Non-conference play is about to make way for league action, which should excite conference fans given that 10 of the ODAC's 13 teams have .500 or better winning percentages. The full allotment is over .400 against non-league foes. Roanoke remains as the only unbeaten squad at 3-0-2, while Randolph-Macon (5-1-1), Shenandoah (5-3-1), and Virginia Wesleyan (5-1-2) are tied for most wins in the table.

  • ADAM BRAITHWAITE | RANDOLPH-MACON | SR. | GK | CHESTERFIELD, VA.
Braithwaite, a senior from Chesterfield, Va., picks up his second ODAC weekly honor of the season as he continues to be a key figure in Randolph-Macon's 5-1-1 start. Braithwaite put in two 90-minute shifts between the sticks, allowing just one goal to go along with a fifth shutout. He faced 17 total shots and turned back five of the six on-goal to help the Yellow Jackets post a 1-1 draw with Averett University in a non-conference tilt. Braithwaite then stopped all three shots he faced to preserve a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory at Regent. Braithwaite is currently tied for the ODAC lead in shutouts (5) and is #1 in saves (38), saves per game (5.43) and save percentage (.905). He is second with a .571 goals against average.

  • CHRIS WILEY | LYNCHBURG | SO. | M | FOREST, VA.
Wiley, a sophomore from Forest, Va., helped the Hornets improve to 2-1-2 on the season with a victory in their only game of the week. Wiley would not be denied his second goal of the season as he broke through in a decided defensive contest against Catholic University for the game's lone goal for a 1-0 triumph. In the 81st minute, his header bound for goal came off a defender, but Wiley stayed with the play and deposited the rebound for the deciding tally. He has now scored both his goals in Lynchburg's last two games with his first coming in a 3-0 win over William Peace University on September 12.

    • Daniel Sierra (Averett, Fy., M)
Sierra scored the game-tying goal in the 86th minute during a 1-1 draw against Randolph-Macon.
    • Andrew Arledge (EMU, Jr., GK)
Arledge played two matches, earning two clean sheets in a 6-0 win against Mary Baldwin and a 0-0 draw against Southern Virginia. He made a total of two saves across 155 minutes of play, contributing to his ODAC-leading six shutouts this season.
    • Kaden Schrock (EMU, Sr., M)
Schrock scored twice, including the game-winning goal, in EMU's 6-0 victory over Mary Baldwin.
    • Jake Carter (Guilford, So., F)
Carter scored two goals on two shots in a 5-0 victory over Regent.
    • Benjamin Velasquez (Lynchburg, Fy., D)
Velasquez led the Lynchburg defense to a shutout in their 1-0 win over Catholic. He played all 90 minutes and helped limit Catholic to just three total shots, only one of which was on target.
    • Ian Edwards (Randolph-Macon, Jr., F)
Edwards scored the game-winning goal in Randolph-Macon's 1-0 win over Regent. Randolph-Macon also tied Averett, 1-1.
    • Quinn Kunath (Roanoke, Jr., D)
Kunath scored his first career goal, tying the game in Roanoke's 4-1 victory over Centre. His defensive contributions also helped stabilize the backline in the second half.
    • Carter Laatsch (Roanoke, Jr., M)
Laatsch scored Maroons second goal and recorded his first career assist in Roanoke’s 4-1 victory over Centre.
