Hampden-Sydney Falls to Emory in NCAA Second Round

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. --- Hampden-Sydney College fell 3-0 to Emory (GA) University in the second round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament on Sunday evening at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
 
The game stayed level for more than half an hour before the Eagles broke through the Tigers' defense in the 37th minute to take a 1-0 lead that was taken to halftime.
 
Emory added to its lead in the second half, finding the back of the net in the 57th minute and once more in the 63rd minute. The Tigers tried to find an answer, but were denied by the goalie on each of their four tries to fall to the Eagles 3-0.
 
Emory had the advantage offensively on the evening, leading in shots (16-5) and shots on target (7-5).
 
Freshman Stig Larson (Richmond) made four saves on the day.
 
The loss marks the end of a historic season for the soccer program, which included its first NCAA Tournament berth and its first NCAA Tournament win.
