SALEM, Va. --- A course very familiar to ODAC runners was again accommodating to league runners as conference cross country stars took to the course at Green Hill Park in Salem for the Division III Cross Country Region 4 Championships hosted by Roanoke College on Saturday morning.
University of Lynchburg standout
Alex Jordan led the men's field and was one of five ODAC runners in the top-10, while Washington and Lee University star
Olivia Warr won the women's championship for a second straight year with teammate
Lydia Harvey placing second with a new personal-best time.
Washington and Lee and Lynchburg went 1-2 in the men's team table with 39 and 57 points, respectively. Roanoke College placed fifth with 216 markers. The Generals earned an automatic berth to the Division III Cross Country Championships in Spartanburg, S.C., next weekend. The Hornets would be the first at-large selection from this region depending upon how the Division III Cross Country Championship Committee views the nationwide field.
On the women's side of the ledger, Emory University topped the team chart with 42 points, while Washington and Lee was the runner-up at 67 markers. Lynchburg placed fifth with 182 tallies. Much like the Hornets on the men's side, the Generals would be the first team off the board at-large.
Thirty-two teams will be selected to both national races, slated for Saturday, November 23. The top-finishing team from each of 10 regions qualifies automatically with the remaining 22 squads per gender selected at-large by the Division III Cross Country Championship Committee. Additionally, 70 individual runners per gender – seven per region – will earn places to fill out the dual 294-runner fields. Individual runners qualify based on their finishes at their respective regional championships as the top-seven competitors not on a team already entered into the field.
The full championship field is expected to be released no later than 3:00 p.m. ET on Sunday on NCAA.com.
Jordan, who placed third at the ODAC Cross Country Championships two weeks ago, won the men's regional event by exactly 17 seconds with an 8K time of 24:15.20. A trio of Generals finished third through fifth including
Robert Cooper (24:33.30),
Keaton Rush (24:34.80), and
Sam Daunt (24:35.6), the ODAC champion. Lynchburg's
Jonathan Cobb (24:43.40) rounded out the ODAC's top-10 finishers in ninth place.
Warr, who also won her second straight ODAC championship on November 1, nearly cracked 21 minutes on Roanoke's championship course with a 6K time of 21:00.70. Harvey finished second at 21:36.40, five seconds ahead of third place.
