Lynchburg Recovers to Claim 20th ODAC Men's Soccer Title

Hornets Earn Conference's Entry into NCAA Postseason Field

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Shellenberger Field proved friendly for the home team for a second time on Saturday with the University of Lynchburg recovering from a 1-0 deficit with a pair of second-half goals to earn a 2-1 victory over Washington and Lee University for the ODAC men's soccer title.

Lynchburg (17-1-2), ranked 13th in the country by the United Soccer Coaches, increased its conference-record title haul to 20 including four in the last six seasons. The Hornets earn one of 43 automatic entries in the Division III Men's Soccer Championship field as the ODAC champion. Washington and Lee (11-4-5) will be among many teams with eyes towards both any remaining conference tournaments and the National Power Index (NPI) rankings to see if they will earn one of 21 at-large bids into the 64-team postseason bracket. The NCAA is slated to release the men's soccer bracket on Monday morning at 11:30 a.m. ET on ncaa.com.

Saturday marked the 12th consecutive ODAC men's soccer championship game that featured a squad from Lynchburg or Washington and Lee. This year's title game matchup was the third straight iteration of Hornets-Generals for the league trophy.

Willy Hall did his best to push WLU to a second straight ODAC crown as he scored the opener a little over six minutes from the opener whistle. Nick Apostolou got the assist as he returned a cleared ball into the box towards the back post with Hall running-on for a one-timer across the goalmouth for a 1-0 lead with 6:18 on the board.

The Generals' edge maintained through the remainder of the first half, but then Keaton Napior stepped into the spotlight for Lynchburg. He scored two goals within 2:22 of each other. His first came at 50:23 when Evan Pask curled in a free kick from the left sideline that Napior headed home inside the six-yard box at the back post.

Napior made it 2-1 Hornets at 52:55 when he cleaned up a scrum in front of goal with a low left-footed effort across the goal and into the right side-netting.
