ODAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 6

ODAC women's basketball teams continued their dominance against non-conference foes, going 9-1 over the past week. Nine of the league's 12 sponsoring programs own .500 or better winning percentages. Nationally eighth-ranked Washington and Lee earned one of those victories to improve to 8-0 overall, but it is Guilford that claimed two more wins and now features at 9-0 for the best start in Quakers' women's basketball history. Both Bridgewater (7-1) and Shenandoah (8-1) are receiving votes towards the D3hoops.com Top-25 poll with the Hornets earning a third win over a ranked opponent this week. Hollins (7-2), Lynchburg (6-2), and Randolph-Macon (6-2) each own .750 or better winning percentages.

  • ANNA GIANNOPOULOU | GUILFORD | FORWARD
    Giannopoulou, a senior from Athens, Greece, starred on both ends of the floor for a second straight week as she collects her second straight ODAC weekly award to help Guilford improve to 9-0 and build upon the best start in program history. Giannopoulou was stellar across the board, averaging 20.0 points and 14.5 rebounds with 10 assists, four steals, and seven blocked shots in the Quakers' 2-0 week in non-conference action. In a 70-52 victory over Pfeiffer University on Thursday, Giannopoulou posted her third double-double of the season with 19 points and 13 boards (11 defensive) to go with six assists, three steals, and four blocked shots. She was 7-of-9 from the field and canned all five of her foul shots. On Saturday in an 88-75 triumph over Johnson & Wales University (N.C.), Giannopoulou posted 21 points and a career-high 16 rebounds (12 defensive) with four assists, a steal, and three blocked shots. She was 8-of-14 from the field including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. Giannopoulou has scored in double figures in all but one of nine games played. She has had at least one blocked shot and steal in each contest with at least four boards in every outing. For the season, she leads in the ODAC in blocked shots (22) and blocks per game (2.4). She is fourth in total rebounds (85), fifth in points scored (144) and rebounding (9.4), sixth in scoring (16.0) and field goal shooting (.500; 54-of-108), seventh in assists (29), tied for eighth in assists-to-turnover ratio (1.1), and 11th in free throw shooting (.784; 29-of-37).

  • ADDISYN BANKS | SHENANDOAH | GUARD/FORWARD
    Banks, a junior from Nokesville, Va., picks up her second ODAC weekly award of the season after helping Shenandoah improve to 8-1 on the season with the Hornets third victory over a ranked team. Banks notched her third double-double of the season in SU's 56-54 win at 17th-ranked Elizabethtown College. She scored 17 points on 7-of-20 shooting including 2-of-4 from deep and pulled down 11 rebounds (2 offensive). She handed out three assists, including two late-on to help SU hold off the Blue Jays. Banks scored seven of SU's 16 second-quarter points to carry a 13-point advantage into the break. She added a steal and a blocked shot defensively. For the season, Banks is tied for second in the ODAC in points scored (154) and slots fifth in scoring (17.1). She is tied for third in assists (31), sixth in assists per game (3.4), and tied for eighth in assists-to-turnover ratio (1.1).

    • Averett guard Jy'Lyia Mizell came off the bench for a career-high 18 points with 3 boards, 4 assists, and 2 steals in a 60-58 win over Warren Wilson; forward Aniya Cotton registered 10 points, 6 rebounds, and a career-high 5 blocked shots.
    • EMU guards Jeriyah Osborne and Grace Burke combined for 27 points, nine rebounds, and six steals in the Royals' 61-54 win over Lancaster Bible.
    • Guilford forward Briahn Scott averaged 17.5 points and 3.5 rebounds with 7 assists, 4 steals, and 3 blocked shots to help the Quakers to a pair of wins and improve to 9-0 for the best start in program history.
    • Lynchburg guard Brooke Cason registered 8 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals in the Hornets' 60-51 road win at Mary Washington.
    • Washington and Lee forward Mary Schleusner posted 18 points and 13 boards with 4 blocked shots and 2 steals in a 68-45 win over Stevenson; guard Riley Bryant registered 14 points and 7 rebounds with 4 assists and 2 steals.
