ODAC Field Hockey Report: Week 3

ODAC field hockey programs remain fully in non-conference play through the third weekend of action. Conference teams competed in 13 overall games with the league going 8-5 in those outings. Randolph-Macon and Shenandoah won twice each with the nationally 12th-ranked Hornets the only unbeaten squad remaining in the ODAC at 5-0. The Yellow Jackets are 4-1 with 15th-ranked Lynchburg just behind at 3-2. Bridgewater and Sweet Briar both picked up their first wins of the year, while Washington and Lee improved to 2-2.

  • VALENTINA AMBROGI-TORRES | RANDOLPH-MACON | GK
    Ambrogi-Torres, a junior from Richmond, Va., picks up her second ODAC weekly award of the season after posting a pair of shutouts to lead Randolph-Macon to a 2-0 week. Ambrogi-Torres made three saves in a midweek road game at Division II-member Barton College, aiding the Yellow Jackets in a 3-0 victory. RMC returned home on Saturday and posted a second 3-0 win, this time against Meredith College. Ambrogi-Torres made five saves to complete her back-to-back 60-minute shifts without allowing a goal. For the season, Ambrogi-Torres leads the ODAC in goals against average (.597), save percentage (.921), and shutouts (3). She is second in saves (35).

  • REAGAN FLORY | SHENANDOAH | FORWARD
    Flory, a first-year from Elizabethtown, Pa., registered a four-goal week to help nationally 12th-ranked Shenandoah to a pair of victories to improve to 5-0 as the lone unbeaten team remaining in the ODAC. In a 5-0 win over Hood University, Flory was on the mark three times for her first career hat trick. Twice midfielder Claudia Lenahan assisted Flory with those goals coming in the ninth and 16th minutes. Flory's third tally was an unassisted effort in the 37th minute to cap the game's scoring. At the University of Mary Washington on Saturday, Flory helped the Hornets recover from a 2-0 halftime deficit with the go-ahead goal on the way to a 4-2 victory. Flory scored via an unassisted effort in the 36th minute to give SU a 3-2 lead with 9:08 to go in the third quarter. For the season, Flory leads the ODAC in goals (6) and is tied with Lenahan in points (13).

    • Bridgewater keeper Ashley Nau made two saves in the first half and midfielder Mollie Best scored the first goal in BC's 2-0 win over Catholic.
    • Lynchburg keeper Shay Schoones made four saves each in a 5-2 win over Mary Washington and a 1-0 loss to 13th-ranked Ursinus. Defender Sarah Prins scored the Hornets first two goals against UMW.
    • Sweet Briar posted a 2-1 win in overtime versus Washington & Jefferson College with defender Carlina Christy making two defensive saves and providing the assist on a penalty corner on the game-winner by forward Emmi Burdine. Burdine scored both of the Vixens' goals.
    • Washington and Lee midfielder Margaret Scheurer scored two goals in the Generals 3-0 win over Rhodes College.
