ODAC Field Hockey Report: Week 5

The final full non-conference week is in the books for the ODAC's field hockey programs with the first conference outings set for next weekend. League teams competed in 14 non-conference games, going 8-6 overall. Shenandoah and Lynchburg, ranked 15th and 21st in Division III by the NFHCA, respectively, are atop the ODAC table with 7-2 and 6-2 records. Randolph-Macon at 6-3 and Washington and Lee at 5-3 are the remaining league squads that own better than .500 winning percentages.

  • VALENTINA AMBROGI-TORRES | RANDOLPH-MACON | GOALKEEPER
    Ambrogi-Torres, a junior from Richmond, Va., collects the ODAC's defensive weekly award for a third time in five weeks after posting 24 saves in Randolph-Macon's 2-1 showing against non-conference foes. In a tight 1-0 loss to the University of Mary Washington on Tuesday, Ambrogi-Torres's was peppered by 34 total shots with 22 on-goal. She turned away 20 of them – RMC had one defensive save – to register a new career-best total. On Friday, Ambrogi-Torres was in the pads for 56:03 of the Yellow Jackets 3-0 shutout at Lancaster Bible College. She did not record a save in that match, but did come up with four stops on Sunday as the Yellow Jackets capped their three-game week with a 3-2 triumph over Centre College. For the season, Ambrogi-Torres leads the ODAC in goals against average (0.893), save percentage (0.892), saves (66), and shutouts (3). She is third in saves per game (7.33).

  • REAGAN FLORY | SHENANDOAH | FORWARD
    Flory, a first-year from Elizabethtown, Pa., garners her second ODAC weekly award after helping nationally 15th-ranked Shenandoah to a pair of non-conference road victories to improve to an ODAC-best 7-2 on the season. On Saturday playing at Meredith College in a neutral site showdown against St. Mary's College of Maryland, Flory scored twice and dished out an assist on three straight Hornets goals on the way to a 4-1 win. Just 43-seconds after the Seahawks took a 1-0 lead in the second quarter, Flory knotted the game 1-all with an unassisted effort. One tick shy of seven minutes gone from halftime, Flory scored the eventual game-winner off an assist from Ellie Quinn. Flory then turned provider with the assist on Kierney Weigle's tally for a 3-1 Hornets advantage with 41:11 showing on the third quarter clock. On Sunday, Flory scored once and handed out a pair of assists in a 9-0 triumph over the host Avenging Angels. She provided a near-post pass to Weigle for the game's first goal in the fourth minute and then handed out a helper to Quinn for a 3-0 lead with just 6:24 gone from the first whistle. Flory made it 5-0 Hornets 1:26 into the second quarter. For the season, Flory leads the ODAC in points (22) and goals scored (9). She is third in assists (4).

    • Lynchburg goalkeeper Shay Schoones made six of her seven saves in a 3-1 win over 11th-ranked York College, while midfielder Danielle Coon had two goals in a 4-1 win over Sewanee and an assist against the Spartans.
    • Randolph-Macon forward Llana Thach scored the would-be deciding third goal for a 3-0 lead in a 3-2 triumph over Centre College.
    • Virginia Wesleyan forward Landry Meyer scored twice and dished out an assist in a 4-3 win at Meredith College.
